With a new Powerboat Racing Manager, the relationship between the Sport and RYA could be different from the past few years. So, who is the new ORC Chairman?

A new Manager and a new Offshore Chairman could completely change the interpretation of the regulatory framework.......

New powerboat racing manager appointed

The RYA is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeni Jelf to succeed John Puddifoot as Powerboat Racing Manager when he retires in early 2014.

Jeni has been involved in the sport for many years as a team manager, an official, and event organiser. She has actively participated on RYA and UIM Committees and currently chairs the RYA Circuit Racing Committee. Recently she has been instrumental in the creation of Powerboat GP.

Speaking today Jeni said “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the team at the RYA. The opportunity to head up RYA powerboat racing was not one to be missed and I am really looking forward to building on John’s excellent work with fresh ideas to bring a new energy to powerboat racing in the UK.”

That was a quicker announcement than the RC church choosing a new Pope!

After a lot of thought, I wish Jeni Jelf all the best for her new job at RYA. I have high hopes that her experience as a volunteer official and RYA committee member; will help her to realign the relationship between the RYA "Office" and the experienced RYA Committee members.

The volunteer experts; drawn from a field of current and former racers, working officials and specialists such as designers, builders, engineers, medics, etc; should be the ones to debate and set policy, for the Office to implement, and manage on a day to day basis.

In recent years, the Manager has burdened the volunteers with minutiae, with the constant threat of "the RYA will not sanction this, or that". Letting the Manager reflect upon, and dictate, policy.
