Team LMR Battle their way to Vigo
The P1 wild card entry of Dean Gibbs and Neil Holmes today left for Vigo in their Yanmar powered Sunseeker XS.
Yesterday the Hustler and the Velocity left Drivers headed to Vigo on their respective Ferries.
Dean Gibbs of Team LMR has chosen not give those greedy ferry companies any of his hard earned cash and thus is making his way to North Western Spain by sea.
The route as decided at 9.00am this morning is Southampton to Salcome, Salcome to Brest (France) and then the treturous crossing of th Biscay.
We at Drivers waved them off with a tear in our eyes and wished them luck!
Will keep you updated on there progress!

Been down that way and their first challenge will be which chops up real nice
Unless they have people meeting them they could stay at Camaret-sur-Mer which will save them a trip up to Brest and is a little nicer!

I bet their insurance guy took a big gulp when they said their taking a little powerboat and not some strapping large keeled sail boat across those notorious seas
And not even a big sail boat is safe, years back I read an article about a couple happily sailing through these nasty seas doing the same thing on the way to Spain in a 60' large keel Abel sea boat, the article said they noticed some rather strange white lines in the distance and thought it best to take cover and batten down the covers then go down bellow, shortly after white water hit the vessel rolling it over breaking the mast they were lucky, somehow I do not think a 40' XS would fair quite so well

Good luck to the guys,
But are they doing this alone or are they pairing up with any other boats for safety factors over the open waters?

Dean can be called a proper offshore racer now. We used to do that in the
'80's but only along the South Coast, Not across the Channel and down to the North of bleeding Spain.
Good luck to them. Great respect for doing that.

Latest News:
Team LMR have arrived in France after stopping in Salcombe for fuel. As far as we know they arrived early evening yesterday. Their were no major hicups on the way. The only problem was that French customs confiscated Neils Sweedish vacum penis developer due to a lack of paper work.
