Sports Boats at Cowes.

I know times are difficult but I am disappointed that more sports boats aren’t coming out to have a go at Cowes this year.

Last year we had several Rings, Phantoms and Revenger sports boats running in the Cowes Poole Cowes race (70 miles) and I know they had a great time.

There are a lot of you out there so if you want a weekend to remember come and join us. It’s from you guys with these 18 & 21ft hard tops that the next generation of powerboat racers will emerge so come and have a go at some serious offshore racing and some serious partying.

You never know, you might just enjoy it

Just had a customer in with a 21 Phantom, he'd love to compete in the CPC, but can't justify the costs to his wife.

He feels £250 entry is quite a large sum for someone boating on a budget, especially as he'd then have to buy day licences, travelling and accommodation on top.

Notice the cost has been raised a few times and like most if I was to take part I'd probably moan too however I have a sneaky suspicion that way back in the mid 80's for a blast around a few laps of the Solent while the big boys blasted off on the CTC we paid something around the £100 mark so if you take other things and compare cost hikes like for like ... houses, milk, cars, etc the cost is more than justified by the cost then and now except the recession takes it toll, then it was all fluffy hair and Miami Vice, and who cared about costs then Gordon Bennett wasn't in power to Tax tax tax

You should have them by now. Laura sent them out to all competitors yesterday. If you haven't had yours by Friday let me know as I will be bringing some down to Drivers then and can leave one for you there.

That's unfortunate and I understand fully. But thats the cost and I can't change that now even if I wanted to.

Tanks

I have a couple of bag tanks, FIA Approved if you really get stuck. Although they are only approx 38 x 38 x 90 cm each. PM me if interested , not sure of capacity, to far in workshop to measure accurately. But will take pics if req tomorrow. May help if you find a one big tank as well.

CTC Station

Assuming no horrors in course changes from previous years,Anvil Point is a brilliant location to train the lenses from.Back in 1971 I took a portable TV in the car and drove to the cliff edge, watched the live BBC coverage by Raymond Baxter, then snapped the racers go by in storm force winds, back to the car for further coverage at Portland Bill, and then repeated the process for the return leg. Can`t do that anymore. One year they filmed an episode of `Some Mother`s do av`em` on the cliff with Michael Crawford hanging over the edge, but filming was held up while the raceboats growled past.Nothing like the sound of kiekhaefers flat out while your trying to create the suspense of hanging over a cliff edge.
