ML and team have done a great job in reintroducing this great race event, but I think the course run today is mostly spectator unfriendly to the wider population (to watch you end up being a powerboat geek hanging off a rock a bit like a train spotter) and would therefore love to see a few sponsors take up the mantle and with the extra funds perhaps go back to the 80's and 90's with a course past the piers in Bournemouth bay on a Sunday, although I understand that things like this increase the need for safety cover and marshals considerably hence the sponsorship needed
however it's plain to see a lot of hard work goes into organising this event and course's and I guess it really is a racers event as they pay the money over to take part

IMHO part of the success of the Round Britain and the CTC is the mystique that hangs on these great races.
We work purely for those wanting to take part, no one else. There is something in the Marathon racer that makes him want to go off long distance running in deep water which makes them totally selfish of course but hey so what. They pay their money to do this and we put on the races to accommodate them and that’s the way it’s been for 49 years.
We have done these races; we know the exhilaration and the freedom this gives the competitors but at the end of the day Joe Public suffers unfortunately unless, as you say, they hang off the edges of cliffs to see the action. When the CTC Marathon boys (and girls) pass Two Buoys just off the Needles their next entry on the sat nav is Paignton Pier in Torquay. How good is that?
The reason that we bust a gut putting up Choppers to film what goes on is so that eventually everyone who is interested sees what the Marathon racer sees. This year we have managed to secure a deal with Polygon so that the CTC is shown on Sky Sports. It will interesting to hear and see the result. What is really good about this is that once again, a record of the event will have been made.
We can’t do any better than that.
ML.

It went well thank you.
We've picked up a little bit of speed, which has to be a good thing. Guess we'll see on Saturday, though our only competition in class is Gordon, which is a shame as there were 3 or 4 boats in E last year.

...and here is the best line EVER related to rally driving:
"It's not the fart that will kill you, it's the smell." Explanation: Petter Solberg isn't always up to date on his english - "fart" is speed in norwegian, and "smell" is crash... Work's either way
GOOD LUCK to all participants in CTC this weekend - will be spending much time in front of the PC trying to figure out who's giving it the beans...

Reckon you're right, it was pretty bumpy coming over this afternoon, and the forecast for tomorrow is ROUGH.
