Spoke with Markus today before the race - never met him before - really nice bloke with time to talk enthusiastically about the boat. Great result!

CTC 09 Pics

A few pics from Anvil despite some pretty lousy lines from the Poole Bay Mark. What on earth are the navigators doing. The mark was in same position as 2008,unless it was moved, yet the boats were some way off this time. Are you listening Jonny? For christ sake give us a chance,750mm didn`t even fill you up,but by christ were you taking air. That must have hurt.Take some tips from Jonny Calcutt who dissapeared under the cliffs at one point.Cinzano was about 3 miles behind Hot Lemon on way back,so summat dramatic happened in the final miles.See post 242 Nige re Bounty Hunter.

Anvil 1st run

In order of running

Blast Off
Hot Lemon
Team 25
Wettpunkt
Carbon Neutral
Relentless
Scorpion
Cinzano
Power Products
Biretta
Fugitive
My Pleasure II
Swipewipes
Miss Daisy
Nauti Boy

PPG Print slipped by but didn`t notice it.Maybe it was way out a la Miss Daisy which was about a mile off the headland. What line were they taking for heavens sake. All the lines were nothing like that plotted on a map, unless that Poole Mark had shifted from last year.Would be nice to know from the aerial film shots at Portland how close they were there. The courses were so spread, somebody was right and somebody wrong. Not much shelter to be gained from hugging the coast. It looked like Wettpunkt was racing Cinzano on way back as they were fairly close from St.Albans right through to Poole Bay.

The Computer says NO!

Sorry Graham. Not the best days racing I've ever had.

About a mile short of the Needles (outbound) the port motor decided it was time to stop. It seemed the electronic engine management spat it's dummy out.
After about 15 mins or so, and once I'd taken off all me safety clobber, it restarted. We threw everything back on, and got back underway. It ran all the way to Torquay, though I was aware there was something lacking in the performance.

After rounding the marks in Torbay (at a pedestrian 55mph, as that was as quick as it would run following it's hickup) we headed out back into Lyme bay, but as we passed Ore Stone, the motor stopped again, another 20 mins or so wait, and it restarted breifly, but then nowt. The virtual instruments on the control screen were all talking bollox, zero volts, 2.5 bar of oil pressure without the engine running, full scale exhaust temp, zero degrees engine temp, everything right up the shute.

So, 100 miles back from Torquay on one motor, at best 25mph, at worst, knocked off the plane trying to climb the large swell. By the time we got back into the Solent, the remaining running engine was getting very poorly, we think we've probably burned a wastegate out with it struggling for 4 hours labouring at 3000rpm. Result, from Hurst castle to Cowes (about 13 miles), off plane!

A huge thanks to the Hunton safety boat 'Xtreme' who escorted us back to Cowes @ an mindnumbing 8mph.

All in all, 8 hours at sea and a complete waste of time, effort & money.

Great win for the Cinzano team, I assume as they also won the Needles they now take 1st in Marathon class

Pore Martin Lai that boat has never come through for him although as proved in P1 it ran pretty quick at times in a sea that suited it's set up and it now looks like an expensive re-build ... ouch

what happened to Drew with his ex-Pro vee boat, did it not start
and I guess that D2S was still unfinished for it's big run

Pity the old 40' Tecno did not take part those kind of seas would of suited it

What happen in the CPC any pic's

Sorry to hear about the problems on swipewipes Jon, it must have been very frustrating.
