If you are wanting the latest info on entries for the Marathon classes at Cowes D~OOD, I suggest that you give me a call so that you can get it from the horses mouth, so to speak.

Where the feck has the thread with the rules on gone? And how long are these rules meant to last for?

I heard a very disturbing rumour from someone who should know, that the RYA are looking at starting again with the rules as there are too many classes!

That would be really helpful!

Here you go: http://www.britishpowerboatracingclu...0june%2009.pdf

By the way, if it wasn’t for JF we wouldn’t have ANY rules at all, and there is certainly no one at the RYA with his knowledge who is capable of re-writing them. For what’s it worth, the RYA (JP) has said that these rules will now stay as per and they will be/are in PB1 2009.

Firstly thank you for the link, however that is not the rules but a list of the classes and there are no links on the website that I could see.

I'm not sure who you are replying to, but I didn't say a bad word about JF or anyone else - but from what you say, if I build a boat from scratch for next year it could be illegal by the time it hits the water?

If the rules are only good for the year they are written it doesn't encourage manufacturers to get involved. For what it's worth I have discussions with 2 different people about building a boat for them, but why would they commit if there is so much uncertainty?

Surely a set of rules and classes should be set for a minimum period?

Sorry Cookee, the Rules and Regulations are underneath the Class Classifications and are here: http://www.britishpowerboatracingclu...les%202009.pdf

I am not aware of any move by anyone to only use these rules for one year. That would be plain stupid and irresponsible. I understood from JF that the whole idea was to ensure the longevity of these rules for boat builders such as you and engine manufacturers to be able to plan for the future and to have the confidence that the rules wouldn't change every year or two. The intention was to set these rules in stone for at least 4 years and it still is bearing in mind the RB2012 and other such races looming down track. I am sure the RYA would agree with that and everyone else as well.

Sports boats at the Cowes Powerboat Festival

We need more of you guys with your 21ft Phantoms and Rings to come out and race at Cowes this year. Last year we had 8 in Sportsboats and they all had a great time running to Poole and Back. This year it will be a little harder because it is going to be a 70 miler, down to Poole, twice round the bay and the fast run back home up to Cowes.

Grab a helmet and borrow a life jacket and come and have some fun with us. The more the merrier. Two major parties on the Friday night and the BIG one on the Saturday night plus a beer tent in the pits all day every day. There is only one Cowes race each year and this is the BIG ONE.

Lastly, there is the unique experience of running ten miles down the Solent at 35 knots along side all the big boys and behind the Red Jet Hydrofoil – until you reach the start line that is!! Also, see if you can beat the Honda boys, you will be running with them as well!

We should have 50 to 60 boats all running through Hurst flat out. Should be quite a spectacle.

Is this open to basic entries?
If so what is boat criteria? entry fees etc.
Is there a minimum length/hp ratio.
thanks
Paul

You are looking at Marathon rules. They don't apply to sports boats taking part in the Cowes Poole Cowes race because virtually anything can take part. You have 21ft Hondas competing this year and last year we had several 21ft Phantoms running.

The principle of this race is that ANYONE with a sportsboat such as yours, as long as your boat is sound and you think you can take on Poole Bay and run for 70 miles and are suitably equipped with all the normal safety gear, then there is no reason why you shouldn't "have a go" and enjoy a very special weekend at Cowes.

That's good news, all boats running in the CPC race pay £250 plus of course your licence from the RYA which you can buy on the day. All other info on our web site www.bpbrc.co.uk.

Cowes Classic ORDA Entrants

With plenty of help from Dave Ormiston, Island Offshore Photography, I have been able to add 3B, 3C and V24 intended entries to the BPRC web site.

http://www.britishpowerboatracingclu...k/entrants.htm

Crew shots are needed!

These will not only be used for the site, but the official programme and will be supplied to any interested media.
