[QUOTE=Cookee;217848]I think some of the cancellations may be down to racers keeping their powder dry for June 2013, with big events in consecutive years it must be a factor although I would certainly hesitate to blame it all the Monte race.
I wouldn't blame any of it on the C-M 2013 race.
The blame lays with the organisers. Lack of any information from the begining to end.
I feel sorry for the few that have committed themselves to boats, Licences etc.
You only have to look at this thread to see how popular it is.
So what happens if they can't raise the 120 grand?

I do know that "some" teams have stated they are saving themselves for next year and the current situation is a result of teams backing out - As I said I'm sure there are a number of factors involved and a lack of information may be another although I believe all of your questions were answered?
I am not aware of a plan B as yet although I'm sure there is a lot of head scratching going on right now.

Cookee. That is one of the problems for the dismal turn out, you and the RB12 team believe all the questions were answered. For me not one was answered.
You deposit money 2 years inadvance on a promise that you will race from venue to venue around the uk with fantastic parties every night.
Never read any thing then or since that convinced me.
You could not make it up, 3 months to go and the entrants all need to pay more money for the race to happen.
In the mean time thousands are spent jumping on someone else's band wagon by sponsoring a race thinking the race entries are going to flood in.
RB12 in my opnion has done the sport more damage than good.
The poor few guys who have invested many hard earned pounds and were expecting a great race, fantastic challenge and an adventutre of a life time have got what........er another invoice
The reply will be but we have lost money and yes there correct they probably have and who's to blame.

I spoke at length with Hugo this afternoon and the race is still on as we speak, no one has been asked for more money at any point! All of the questions you asked in emails were answered - I still have them all! I'm not going to pretend this is going to be the race that was invsaged but we still have a boat race!

Politicians answer questions.
So for £12.50 plus Vat per HP you get a race but not one you envisaged.
It's going to be the one I envisaged with the answers and all the PR / Info that's flyiing off the press. talking of flying the entree fee for the planes isn't even on the web site.
No mention of entries on the cars either.
Or anything.

As I said I am not part of it all now and as I'm not a politician either I'm not going to try and dodge anything - I hope we will all find out what the end result of all this will be revealed next week.

Being one of the few who paid £500 as a signing up deposit two years ago, I am staggered to say I have been contacted a grand total of twice, the second time being a month or so ago to find out how big my boat was !
ML shows how to do it by keeping everyone updated as much as he can, multiple meetings etc.
I hope RB12 goes ahead, and wish everyone the best success.

Communications have been a little on the sparse side of perfect! I am very hopeful of still getting to race - but if it doesn't go ahead despite assurances we have got a plan B which entails going round anyway doing some charitable work and promotion for our sponsors.

There is a list of 38 names on the website so I would imagine they would be included in that list if it's been kept up to date. We're still in! Anyone else?
Markus? Gordon?

I have asked the organisers for confirmation of when the final decision will be made as not knowing is hardly doing anyone's credibility any good and I have been given the OK to repeat this:
We will know were we stand by close of play this Saturday (March 24th) following CMC briefing. We have a sponsors meeting tomorrow and another on Friday.
So the bottom line is a confirmed announcement a week today (March 26th) or sooner if we know.
We are starting to form a Plan B in the event that the race is cancelled to protect ourselves - as most on here will know we have built the boat with this race in mind and we will go round Britain regardless - we will probably go through the canal and re-arrange the route slightly - in addition to satisfying the requirements of our sponsors we hope to help some charities out - if anyone wants to join us then we'll be taking names this time next week - or not!

I spoke to Neil, Hugo and new man Fred at the Monte meeting and they have another meeting with their main sponsors on Wednesday, so we'll have to wait another couple of days to find out what's going on, as a plan B we are still aiming to go round anyway but the traditional shorter route through the canal.

Hi Pookie - Thanks for asking, it seems that the sponsors are weighing their options currently, about the only good news you can get from that is that it isn't a "NO" ........................ yet!
