Whats going on? The web site has a blank page on the right and the last post was 6 days ago as with their Facebook page! Surely at this late stage there should be loads of stuff going up. Also Aidan hasn't responded to any posts on here for days. NOT GOOD! Where are the other Directors, Dredge, Wood-Power, Carlton etc etc, why aren't they posting and helping to push the event along?

Was or is? Shouldn't stop him posting on here backing up Aidan and anyway, if he is still in Monaco does that mean he isn't taking part?

"Was" as in I saw some photos of him down there - sadly he doesn't keep me updated on his current whereabouts or I would be able to keep you informed! They will have to get the boat back to London for the "Start" which may or may not involve him and a sea journey or a truck and trailer? Facebook seems quiet, nothing in the Venture Cup Pits group since the 5th of May?

I'm beginning to feel so guilty now as the demise of this race was down to my negative posts on boatmad.

I was going to comment that last week I checked the Twitter account and the majority of recent posts dated back to last year, which is seriously neglecting social media presence for an event in 8 days. however went to search for it again now and all you can find is the hashtag vcrace. To which most tweets date back to Jan and November. Two recent tweets from a tracking firm of the vector guys in Canada, that's it. Their own twitter account seems to have vanished (it might be my mistake, but can't find it anywhere and it's not on the website) Very poor if they were ever wanting to attract viral media attention, even before the "race" format changed. If they used the cool content of fast powerboats and lifestyle, driven by a leading PR firm, they should have hundreds if not a few thousand followers by now.

Our own twitter account has 8,816 followers from bouncing around in RIBs and doing a few gigs in London last year. Would have expected a major event to have much more, especially after two years.

Does it not make sense to rather than run a pleasure cruise for remaining boats to all register privately with the UIM for time records and see who gets to Monaco first in a bid to break their respective size time record.

They are all going down over 2 weeks, haven't got the range (I would think) for the long legs to break records and no flexibility on start dates - Therefore a bit of a non starter I would imagine?

Was just thinking if the event fell apart as a cruise and the host harbours only wanted to be involved in the glamour of a "race". Then as independent teams, what would the best way of covering the distance and still running in some form of format

Following the recent decision by the RYA regarding the Venture Cup race to Monte-Carlo, the organisers have been working with the Belgian National Authority, the UIM Pleasure & Navigation Commission, and the UIM in an attempt to source an alternate way of running the Venture Cup this June.

For UIM approval we needed to find a specific element within existing UIM rules which could be voted on, and this was found under Rule 307 of the Pleasure & Navigation section of the UIM. An ‘Advance Notice’ was then created and submitted to the UIM Pleasure & Navigation Commission for their approval, and the vote was passed to support the event.

The only remaining item then was for the UIM Executive Committee to vote on the matter of the application timing. Under normal circumstances a request must be submitted some time before the time-window we were operating in, so a derogation was required.

We have just learned that the UIM Executive Committee have voted not to allow the derogation.

We are therefore left with no option but to cancel the Venture Cup at this time. as it has always been our intention to run the event under the governance of the international powerboat authority.

We would like to apologise to all those affected by this decision.

We understand that several of the teams are planning their own private run to Monaco during the same dates, and we wish them the very best of luck. We are more than happy to support them in way we can, and would ask that others do the same.

We will not be commenting any further at this time.

Even though this is no surprise to some of us on here it is with sadness that that this race has ended this way.

It's interesting that some of the directors were all ready busy on other commitments weeks ago.
I have no idea but on the surface it looks like Aiden was hung out to dry.

Some serious soul searching needs to be done by many.

If the 3 Scorpions, Boss and classic boats do go to Monti from London it would be fantastic (if were welcome) to see them off on the 7th.
Hopefully any members of these teams could let us know.

Well you better get down there then coz we are going !
Its a shame there arent more boats that can come and show some kind of support for the sport.
I am amazed that form 20 odd boats there are just 4 of us left. Obviously everyone has thier reasons but the sport is finished unless the teams can get themselves organized.
I just hope that this will not put people off in the future to try and run something as fantastic as the Venture Cup.
