Who has been asked to race - and didn't?

I'll start.

About six or seven years ago at Cowes I wasn't planning to race but a well respected IIIC driver needed a navigator.

I told him I would do it but luckily he found a more willing candidate so I was off the hook.

Anyone else?

Bad rides!

Can I reverse that question?
There have been plenty of times when I have said “yes” to sitting in the back of something, and then wondering what the **** I had got myself into the next afternoon!
Turned down a Zapcat invitation end of last year…very sensible me thinks..

Again at Cowes (97 I'm pretty sure) the owner of a rather large aircraft carrier needed another licenced driver in the boat.

I will never forget the feeling as the start boat left us for dead during the start run. Think I hid in the cabin.

Was racing against a guy in 87.
By September my wooden cat was water logged, engine was so down on power it was embarrassing, money had run out weeks ago.
Competitor asked me if I fancied sitting in the back with him next week in the worlds.
Pride got the better of me, and I entered sad and tired rig, 3 x retirements.
Competitor won the worlds. 3 x wins
