WPPA vs UIM
After founding the WPPA in Dubai and separating Class 1 from the UIM, now the UIM shots back. Just received the following PR.

I'm not sure what I think about it yet, but it's certainly gonna be interesting.

Would be interesting if it does take off.
However, I believe that it is doomed to failure due to their selection of personnel..

It will also mean that if the RYA sanction the Plymouth event they will be thrown out of the UIM?

That's your opinion, and in mine, is a bit shitty! I think Rory's OK.

I hope this doesnt result in higher Calendar fees, licence fees etc. due to no money coming from C1-Plymouth.

I guess you just know him socially then, and have never had to deal with him organising a race or arranging meetings, or reporting on information gathered etc...
I really dont like the man. ( just to clear things up... )

Plymouth with new body guess it would be a non sanctioned event so that rules out Honda unless they break away as well. Ohh 1789 all over again

So you dont think Honda will break away as well?
They are mostly based in the UK, and they dont appear to run with the other classes...
Also the Class III was mentioned, excluding Europe. Would they be able to pull the Europeans as well?
What about other classes? Pro-V was mentioned, but is there a Pro-V race series at all? And V24?There are a bunch of owners ( and the current owner of the series ) who are unhappy with the RYA, and may make the jump just to be spiteful.

There's an updated document from the UIM on the orda site.
http://www.orda.co.uk
I think the UIM need to be very careful, their response needs to be much more measured & professional than I've seen so far - at the moment they are playing straight into the hands of the WPPA with what appears to be a bit of a over reaction. The only justification for such a reaction would be on the grounds of safety!!
Competition is healthy for the spirit!

No, I just chose a random name, decided I did not like the name and picked on him. I have never met him, and I have never raced before.

Johnny Rocket
It does seem from the letters that the UIM is running scared.
As far as I know ( and feel free to correct ) when the Americans formed a breakaway National Authority, the UIM broke the rules to recognise it, just to prevent the split from becomming a split.
There has been talk of a different organisation running things in the UK for years, due to people being unhappy with the RYA. ( search Boatmad for example ) So if this organisation got off the ground, and was a proper alternative to the UIM, then a different UK organisation may form, align itself with this new body, and try split off the cream from the UK race series.
For sure the first target would be Honda. There are already close links between RP and Honda, and they are the 'biggest' thing in UK powerboat. They have the most numbers and the most coverage.
Do you think that they will resurect Pro-Vee?

Ah, OK. I was foolishly looking for an "updated document from the UIM"
Saw what seemed to be the same letter and didn't keep scrolling . . .

I know it’s the fashion to “knock” the RYA but you have to take it to it’s natural conclusion. It’s all very well to say that an alternative organisation might come along but there is one thing that will stop that and that’s personnel and money. Who will finance setting up another RYA and run it? Right now they are our national body and you have to work with them. If you want change maybe you should consider working from within rather than from “without”. The same could be said about UKOBA but we won’t go there!
We will continue to work with the RYA. They have been very helpful to us so far. Good luck to the rest of you, you will have to go with your consciences I guess.
