Xcat Mania hits Dubai

For anyone interested check the new Xcat Extreme Marine...left the works out there today to test: www.xcat.tv

It's a beast with some very interesting concepts...don't worry Dobs, I'll post a load of CPR Xcat too when she comes out of Al Quoz too!!!!

Ian Blacker and Gavin Parsonage get here tomorrow - I'll take more pics and and post them up. Got the video and audio going today so hopefully will have an interest insight into cockpit conundrums to post when I get a chance. Gringo has been turning the boat into a palace, as some here will understand and OCR Bob has been busy with the Merc computer...Cookie, thanks for the diagnostics stuff by the way...

The regs are pretty tough now due to the obvious but have to say it is hot and buzzing out here and Gringo is like a kid who can't sleep before Xmas Day!!!

You're welcome for the "Diagnostics stuff" just make sure Bob brings it back!

What the hell is that written on the side of your boat?

Good luck to you and Ian and keep us informed!

In God's will....I did tell Gringo that my latest book is by Dawkins! He should have been Gibraltar's Diplomat for the Middle East!

I didn't ask but it seems to be going down well in these parts...

hi cookee
this is the ex finn racing triple outboard class 2 converted to run 6-litre.
howard wretham and i have raced the last 4 seasons out in the middle east.
it is a turn-key boat but now that the wppa have changed the rules regarding cockpit construction and escape hatches, this boat is not eligible to race. [ however , if you remove the 2 sponson cockpits and build a single cockpit with side-by-side seats on top of the tunnel with an escape hatch in the tunnel roof , you would be eligible to race.]
i'll try and get some pics up but havent been sucessful in past.
pm me an e-mail address... i can do that !!!

That's a shame - not interested for myself although I would have thought that someone "over there" would be capable of doing the conversion?

Official practice today...first time for us and without trying hard (as getting used to boat) we did a respectable lap time (beat Matteo Nicolini which made our day and a few others. But the heat will be really on tomorrow with Pole position and race soon after.

Ian B still finding feet as testing some gadgets.

Giovanni Carpitella had an engine problem and Fazza have two boats in with one of them flying! (And spinning too!)

Gonna be tough to get in top five I think for many this year... but 21 boats racing.

Will do our best to upload more info on xcat.tv

Gringo and I recorded our cockpit audio and video of forward camera so will publish that soon on youtube ...warts and all!

But a great day and I have to say guys and gals all the racers out here are really helping one another - real good racing spirit.

Thanks Guys but it turned out a little unfortunate for the Brits: We started on a jumper lap and felt excited to go around the first turn boy 2nd to Fazza! But red flagged. Restart...not so good but manged to get around start course and come through timing gate in 7th (Gringo was going for it as confidence is building) Ian Blacker was in front this time. We went out to sea and a bloody steering hose blew! End of our game and in such a good position for first timers.

Then as Gringo was getting ready to tow he looked behind us and saw Ian and Gavin go over. They were ok though...came through the bottom hatch.

So Rob McCarthy, Garry Balough and Grant and Dave Cowley all dived in this evening, aided by te Italians with expresso and washed out and got the engines going.

I suspect Ian is still down in the dry pits sorting them out.

Fantastic start for us as we were 13th in pole out of 21 and we feel confident of the boat in the rough which gives us an advantage. I reckong if Ian hadn't goner over and we hadn't blown a hose we would both have been in the top 6.

Rashid Al Mari won in hi new boat Extreme Marine...The American Doug Wright was 2nd I think with Qatar 94 3rd and Abu Dhabi Racing 4th.

I think we all need a beer now!

PS Both Fazza boats DNF'd
