yachting double standard

So powerboat events get slammed all the time yet sailing regattas get away with everything!

Take this to the RYA for your next meeting. Let powerboat race through the Solent

W.A.F.I (Wind Assisted F****n Idiots).
Always in the wrong but never wrong,I've been hit by one while at anchor....8miles south of the needles on a clear calm day.
If that had been a powerboat in a race and hit that tanker can you imagine the fallout ?

Unfortunately though it is a case of dont piss off the people that pay your wages. As I imagine that combined their are far more sailing clubs and yachtsmen that are members of the RYA than Powerboaters (Dos anyone have any numbers on the makeup of RYA members would be interesting to see) this is because if you go to any reservoir in the UK with a sailing club almost everyone will be a member of the RYA. They play to their members...

thanks, I did look but didnt have much time
Yacht Cruising - 36,920
Motor Boating - 13,995
Dinghy Racing - 9,338
so motorboating is about 25% of membership.

Def double standards
PCM was looking at 7k plus fine for getting up on plan outside the marker buoys.
At lymington
Had the judge not been a boater herself and disagreed with the harbour masters statement .
So you can stuff a yacht into a tanker for half the price , something just not right

How long will it be before the Big Cats ( don't know their correct class ) as raced in the America Cup with Ainsley on board are racing in the Solent at 40 knots +

Unlikely as they need a natural viewing area, the smaller ones raced in Plymouth but the areas are closed off for those boats just like Class One so not a fair comparison really.

I would agree with Seahound V that at some point soon at least one America's Cup 72 will compete in the Round the Island race. If only to reduce the record time that Ainsley set in the AC45.

If it does it will be interesting to see what controls are put in place.

Now that is a possibility!
