Poker runs

May I introduce myself - I´m a Englishman living in south Germany who is mad about powerboats - and with my 25 Outlaw, an active participant in the various poker runs that take place over here during the summer. This year there will be four planned. of which three take place in June.
My powerboating friends are a fantastic bunch of people who take absolutely every opportunity to get the maximum out of their various Cigarettes, Scarabs, Checkmates, Hustlers, Formulas and of course, Bajas. Most makes of boat and power conbinations are represented. what we also like to do is have a good party before, after and it is possible, during the events.
it would be great if we could see some of you people over at one or other of the events here.

thanks, and keep up the good work.
being boat mad is the only thing that keeps me sane(!!??)
Stephen

Dunaruna, thankyou. Well how about that! We were down there for nearly four weeks. Rented a house in Port Grimaud and put the Outlaw and a Zodiac rib in front on the mooring and had the holiday of a lifetime. I was out almost every day in this boat and it was in front of Strop where the air picture (along with 26 other great pics) was taken.
What were you doing down there, apart from taking photos of the Sportmer dock and I believe it was an Apache in the foreground of your pic?

Good tast in boats, sir! Apaches are beautiful. I looked around them at the Mcmanus exhibit outside the Fort Lauderdale show in 2004. Saw Tzunami there and was really pleased to see the boat out on the water down on the Med, as well.
Yep, we made regular runs out to Nikki beach and I really looked forward to the crossing past the lghthouse at around midday after the Mangustas had churned everything up
We did a trip down Cannes and in total logged up 50 hours during the stay down there. We also put at leat as many hours on the rib.

I managed to do IOO hrs on apache 36 and 148 on the Cig 46
this last season. also did a couple of runs and photo shoot on the awesome apache tsunami which was a priveledge and great pleasure.

Yeah the water gets pretty rough by the lighthouse alot of
boats get broken in that mayhem.

Glad you guys enjoyed youselves on the coast. Duna

Poker run number 1 is organised by www.offshoreonly.de and takes place on 03-05 June running from Neuwied ( near Koblenz) to Schierstein (near Frankfurt).

Poker run number 2 is organised by www.poker-run.nl and takes place on 16-18 June running from Emmerich (on the german Dutch border) to Rotterdam.

Poker run number 3 is organised by www.poker-run.de and takes place on 30 June - 02 july running from north of Karlsruhe to Schierstein (I think, yet to be finalised).

So all three are on the Rhine (Rhein) river. expect about 50 - 70 entries running from 22 footers up to 40 foot Cigarettes.
some run separate classes and average speeds go up to 70 mph in the top class.

I am sure that a british entry with a Bladerunner would be much encouraged sight, but also any others who would like to sample the powerboating scene here are extremely welcome. Take a look in on the websites.
If I can be of help, get in touch.
Stephen

Thanks for the dates. If the RYA ever publishes the race dates for 2006 I will see which one we can fit in.

I bought the boat mid 2005 in holland with 70 hours on it´s factory fitted 496HO with Bravo X drive. It had a michigan Rapture 3 blade 14 3/4 x 23 on it and ran 64 mph GPS at 4900 rpm with lots of blow out on acceleration and when reentering. The prop was way too small for the torque of the 8.1 litre motor. I tried a number of Mirage and Bravo props and then ordered a 15 1/4 x 26 Bravo labbed down to 25 and it runs really nice. 67 mph at 4900 I see all the time with a one time max of 70 mph at 5100 (which made me smile). The Gaffrig Monster gauge is depressingly accurate but always check it with the GPS!
When I was down on the Med I ran a 22 Bravo which gives a little more control in the rough stuff.
So 67 is what it does, and that seemed fast enough last season.... but not any more...now I´m going blue!
A brand new Mercury racing HP525 EFi with an XR drive and hydraulic steering is going in and that should bring the Outlaw up to 75 mph. It´s a heavy boat (around 4700 kg) and has relatively high freeboard, and is very robust. The 24 degree vee has a good sized delta pad, notched transom and what seems to be quite a high X dimension. I think it handles great, but I´m still relatively new to these speeds, so I am inerested to compare. Question answered

tsunami- What a fantastic looking boat, saw that blasting around Bay of St Tropez last summer, seemed to handle the rough stuff ( mangusta wakes) beautifully. Stunning boat!!.
