Very fast? How fast exactly? Is this GPS pub fast or offically timed fast?

Very safe?

Very fun

Is this is a B24/V24 one design ex racer? or a B28 with a B24 cockpit? The wings look thinner than they should be for a B24 but the cockpit looks definately B24... What are the engine hours? What props? What is the real actual speed?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Na, the B28 wings are 1/3 the thickness of the V24 at the tail. that is I'm sure, a V24, a few of the early ones built in the States were Merc Scorpion377/Bravo powered.

It is the V-24. Runs 87mph with a stock 377 scorpion on a Gaffrig GPS and backed up by blind GPS used for OPA racing. That is with a 30p Bravo One that is labbed.

377 is that = HP produced by the engine?

No, 377 cubic inch

i think they were rated at 360hp

It was a custom engine built by Merc, very expensive with some nice third party components, and I think the quoted 360 horses were 'real', so it has a reputation as a very strong & reliable 'performer'.

GM then brought out the factory 6.2 litre motors (same capacity) which were obviously made from cheaper 'stock' parts, and the custom built 377 Scorpion was dropped in favour of the cheap n cheerful factory option.

Interesting.
With the 320 Hp for the Volvo penta 5.7 we have the official run average speed of exactly 80mph.

JF, this does not fit in with the calculations for determining speed increase by adding Hp to a boat.

This boat is about 10% faster with 12% more power.

How does that work. With 12% more power it should go 6% faster or ~ 84mph

Only if all other parameters are the same.

We dont know:

weight & drive height

We do know that your boat was quicker with one prop removed, a Bravo1 is a single prop drive.

too many variables to use that calculation with any value.

Don't panic, people have been using em for years.
You've also gotta remember the front prop on a Volvo Duo is mahoosive, with even more mahoosive blade area, and intended for use in conjunction with the rear one, so your experience with running just the front one, probably isn't a very good representation for comparison with a dedicated single prop setup like the B1.

I think it would be very interesting to put the two boats up against each other (preferably with the same hp)

So you are saying that the single propped DPx drive is more unstable than a single propped B1 drive?

Because the torque effect on the boat of the dingle propped DPx drive is very 'interesting' to drive in the rough, so I abandoned that in favour of the new setup utilising both props. I figures all single propped boats were the same - I have never driven a single propped boat, so I dont know...

Buy Wahoo's and try it

if you don't like it, fit your motor/.drive in it (as yours has a few issues)

We race against the other V-24s with the Duo Prop and I have raced them myself. The two set ups are entirely different. The Merc with Bravo is faster but is not for the novice. We switch rotation for different courses. We race shorter courses in the US and either turn all to left or all to the right so we set up for that. One of the other guys just dropped a 450hp small block in his with a Duo Prop this week. Looking forward to seeing it run.
