I have found out that my newly aquired cruiser that has the merc 5.0lx v8 is pretty much scrap... was left for years with a valve open and has knackered the piston.
I am looking for a 200hp ish diesel to replace it with, and hopefully get it all fitted by end of august.. idealy i would be after something that would fit onto my alpha 1 drive, but i guess i could make an adapter plate pretty easily.

Sorry to say but I suspect that any 200hp diesel will strip the clutch in the Alpha drive you have...You may have to convert to Bravo. Better still would be an AD41/290DP Volvo Penta package. You could try Coastal Rides. The lighter alternative is the D3 Volvo range but they've had their problems especially in sports boats and ribs due to the electronics
