ETEC or HPDI 200 Wanted

Hi all

I'm looking for a 200HP Evinrude ETEC(First Gen), Optimax, or Yamaha HPDI.

What have you got available?

Thanks

Nasher

I’ve got a 2.5 200 offshore mercury on carbs if that’s any good to you

Thanks Leo, but I should explain more.

It’s not the usual thing on here I suppose, but I’m looking for something with some fuel efficiency and reliability, the boat is used for cruising, even down to the channel Islands a couple of times.
I’ve had a couple of years off boating due to illness and other things, but am looking at a brief refurb and getting back on the water later this year.

I love my current engine, a 1998 Suzuki DT200EFI, I’ve had it since 2004 and it’s been great, but it started using more fuel, despite running as strong as ever, and I’m worried it’s the start of issues to come. People following me have said they now get a good whif of fuel despite giving it a good service, injector clean etc.
It’s equivalent on fuel with a newer tech 2-Stroke up to @1/2 throttle, but above that it drinks like a Carb engine.

I don’t have a huge amount to spend, and need to keep the weight down ideally to @200Kgs, so a first generation ETEC 200 or HPDi 200 really fits the bill.
An ETEC 200HO or 225 is a bit overweight really being the bigger block, but there appear to be more of them about so I might have to go down that route.

Thanks

Nasher.

Assuming it's not actually leaking fuel (you're better than that, I know), then see if you can check the ECU temperature sender.
If it's running cold then it might be over fuelling the motor a bit?

Matt

Hi and thanks.

Yep, when I was first told about the smell I took the Sender out of the block, checked the connector, gave it all good clean and put it back it with some copper grease.

I had the exact same thing with a 1980 Kawasaki Z1000H Fuel Injected Mototcycle years ago and it turned out to be the Bullet connector to the sender corroded.

My carb engine mate seems to be pretty fuel efficient mate tbf but it’s up to you. I was doing guernsey to jersey at 4000 revs and only burning 26 liters

Thanks Leo, but I think I'd rather hold out for a newer tech engine.
