That's the boat that I remember seeing for sale - a Ring 20D. I'm afraid that I can't offer much advice on the engine, but remember the boat as it has a few features that make it look like it could be a splash...

I could be wrong, and this may not concern you even if it were to be?

Sam.

Thanks for all the replies and advice. I have made an offer on the Ring (which is a splash), which has been accepted pending a few more pictures and my taking the look at the boat with a marine engineer to make sure it is all sound.

Do I need any paperwork with the boat? Especially as I plan to use it abroad. I know about the CE certificate, but as it is a home build I don't think this applies, though it might to the engine. I know I have to register the boat in the UK with a name, is this generally enough for foreign coast guards, especially given the age of the boat and engine?

Does anyone know if the Yamaha 130s were CE certified?

Thanks!

The problem you may find with the hull without a CE mark is importing it and then insuring it, I would check both of those out before spending money on a survey.

So we "think" the boat is a splash built in the mid-90s. There is no paperwork and being a splash no plate on the hull. I think if I get a receipt from the vendor, with the estimated date of manufacture of the boat as well as the engine - that should appease foreign coast-guards. It is certainly enough for VAT (as although it doesn't prove VAT was paid, it does show that it is a UK issue).

That along with getting it registered in the UK, and insurance (which it turns out won't be a problem to get) should have me set for Greece.

Does anyone know a boat surveyor they can recommend in the Poole area?

Thanks!

Word of warning to anyone that might consider buying this boat. I never viewed it, but after much positive communication, insurance being sourced and pick up date agreed, the seller pulled out the second I mentioned I would come with a marine engineer who would survey it.

More relieved than annoyed. Feel like I may well have dodged a bullet.
