Jack Plate

Hi Wackey, I'm getting lots of advice / suggestions at the moment. One appears to be, to fit a jack plate, trim tabs and sort out the bow tank.

Not knowing the correct way round all this, I'm not too sure.

Took her out a couple of days ago and although sea not good, I did push her to about 55 MPH. Had a bit of bouncing around and she did list to the port.

Any suggestions, bearing in mind, this is a pleasure boat, with the love of speed. Not a race boat.

If you had a bow tank, you could have filled it a bit, and trimmed out. the trimming out would get rid of much of the 'list', and the weight up front in the bow tank would have levelled the boat back out from the trimming out and stopped any porpoising or bow up attitude.

I don't want to snuff Wacky's deal selling the jack plate, but it really aint needed on a P21 that's being used in the ocean.

All just MHO of course.

First push of power and she lurched to the port, shifted weight in boat and it got better but not enough. have been told that the engine is too low, even though the cavitation plate is level with the bottom of hull.

Are you on the bottom mounting holes, engine as high as it will go ? am I right in saying you got a XL (25") leg on the boat. John is right, engine is far to low for a P21

Hi All, Yes it's an XL, that's what I was told to get. I mounted it myself, top mountings on top holes, bottom mountings on first hole down. Engine mounted central. What will this do as far as running the boat? What should I be looking for? Has anyone got what I need? Peter

is your engine a 3.0 lrt? if so i have an offshore one/300 promax one.
it will also give you about 4-6 hp more having a the offshore exhaust.
p.m me if intrested.

The boat "lists" over because you have the prop fully submearged and it is torqueing the boat over because its rotating, as jon said, thats way too low! if i remember correctly the point/leading edge if 10 inches from the cav plate, which is way too low, most prople run 3-1 inch below,
you will definately need a 20" mid though because to get the bullet that height your power head will be in the clowds and not do any favours for your genter of gravity at all!

Ross.

Raise the motor & Offset. Cant recall the exact numbers with the P21 with a 175 ( weight & power difference for you) but I did post them on here in the past was about 1 3/4" offset height ???? cant recall search the forum. set up wasn't the quickest but the most balanced.

Knackered setup

Hi All, I guess all I can do for now, is raise it as far as I can. Long term though, it sounds like I need a 20" midsection. If anyone hears of one, or of someone who wants to make a 20" into a 25", please let me know. Mine is a 200 Mariner, 2003, ex Government shelf engine, very low hours. Model Number MAR 7200422MY, Description MA-200XL SWR, both straight from Mariner/Mercury registration site. Thanks for all your help, I'm just going to jump in front of a dell quee dory. (probably not spelt right)

TD may have a 20" mid for sale, as he's in the process of converting to Offshore mids/saddles.

Try PM-ing himm 'tony davis' here on boatmad.

You'll obviously also need a 20" downshaft, shift rod, and water tube.
