Bloody hell...that pic shows it very low in the water...the plate on the dash of my boat recomends a max hp of 115,but it seems to handle 200hp fine if you are sensible with the throttle...i would,nt like to go offshore & race it though...the steering gets very heavy at full throttle

I think your mates Arrowsport will take more than 80HP, especially as his Merc 80 will be pre ICOMIA and so probably actually about 70-75HP equivalent. My Arrowflyte, which is only 14'2", handles the 75HP Merc just fine in terms of power. The problem is that the engine seems too heavy for the boat.

Contrast the pictures below where DJB's boat with twice the recommended horsepower sits quite nicely on the water & my Arrowflyte with exactly the (at the time) recommended max power sits semi-submerged!
Hi Mate,
TBH that looks heavy as f*** at the arse end. Nice shot of Cawsand tho

There is a plastic plate on my mates boat that recommends no more than 75hp
The 80hp on there is more than likely 70-75hp in its hay day but I think it makes a little less these days...
Im trying to convince him to get a 150hp.

Hi Folks!

This is an " Arrowstreak 160 GTO / Bravo " , in the middle of the 80s she was a very popular boat here in germany!

The standard power was a 115 V4 Yammi on the back of theses boats.
90 is not enough for it.

A friend had the same boat with an 135 Merc on it - it performed good - no problems.
At this time we had an " Arrowstreak 161 " with a 115 Yam and we were a fade faster :-) the 160 is a little heavier!

these classics look very nice today!

Best regards!
Andi

Hi overpowered boat are dangerous ! The torque off the engine will rotate the hull around the Engine! At hi Speed ! That's why it's twitching
If you want speed safely boat wieght , props , jackplates with nose cone fitted let's outboard run in cleaner water set back from Hull higher in water gives less drag higher speeds runs in shallower water better steering torque as the water is less turbulent behind hull as it rises from transom ,nose cones lets you pick up cooling water 2 to 4 inches higher than stock gearboxes
You can use transom wedges to increase angles for better handling

Hi we had a 115hp yamaha on a arrowsport
for barefooting boat sat low when parked but did 60mph handled it fine !
Remember overpowering hulls with engines that are over manufacturers rating invalids your insurance claims fact !
