Err this could get confusing! ... The autobid history is there (well, at least for soosiesuse) ... what was said early would be true of the bidder "marketinggiant", but not of "soosiesuse" .. it was marketinggiant who was testing the water, what isn't shown is his bids (as he kept getting bettered by sooseisuses' autobid). The original comment was that soosiesuse was up to no good, so its him/her that I'm referring to ..

It was "marketinggiant", who was effectively "bidding it up" not soosiesuse !!!

Autobid history only shows for succesful bids, as if your not succesful, your bid doesn't count, only raises the bid of the previous bidders bid within their maximum bid amount. The reason why there are six autobids from soosiesuse is because marketinggiant bid unsuccessfully on 6 separate occasions as opposed to just sticking in a bigger initial bid.

Yes, that's why I said that in my first post

What ?! Your saying autobids are not shown .. I'm saying they are ... all bidding activity is shown, other than those going in against a higher bid, that are obviously unsuccessful. As long as a bid is successful, it will be shown in the history, autobid or not.

Actually, I'm not saying it, ebay is:

"Item title: Power boat - Phantom 20 powerboat with Mercury 220 XRI (revised)

Time left: 3 days, 5 hours 39 minutes 10 seconds

Only actual bids (not automatic bids generated up to a bidder's maximum) are shown. Automatic bids may be placed days or hours before a listing ends

Only actual bids are shown.

At 12.41 marketinggiant placed an actual bid of £3000
but as he only had to better the previous bid by the minimum amount which was driver510s £2000 it would not go straight to £3000 untill someone else bid.

Soosiesuse then made actual bids in an attempt to just beat the higher bidder as he did not know what marketinggiant had placed as his maximum.

marketinggiants auto bids which ebay place to keep him the highest bidder are not shown just bid attempts against him.

As soon as some one out bids his maximum bid set earlier ( in this case £3000) this bid is then shown as e bay is no longer auto bidding.

Clear as mud!

The reason soosiesuse then went £3150 and £3250 was because he placed the bid of £3150 to outbid marketinggiant and then went on to place his highest bid which was £3250 which did not show up untill it was out bid by cpeel50.

Only actual bids made are shown even if they are out bid by ebays bidding system.

Aaahh ... I thought I understood it but clearly not, I see now whats is shown in the history. Also, the first 2 bids are the same, but Driver510 is the high bidder as his bid was put in first, then marketinggiant puts another max bid in of 3k 11 seconds later. His autobids are not shown, as you say it's actually soosiesuse who is bidding incramentally until he superceeds marketinggiants max bid.

Yes, its not that clear, you need to look at the time of the bid to make sense of it.

What some people do to find anothers highest bid is put a mistake bid in using a false e bay id, as in placing a bid for £10000 when its only at a £1000 which will show up the others
maximum
Then cancel the bid using the excuse that you typed incorrect amount
This the gives you the chance to win the item in the last few seconds by placing one quick bid at the end.

only if the seller agrees to the cax of the bid. My view if your too stoopid to type the right amount tough luck you just bought it.

Not true

You can cancel your bid without the seller if no one else has bid since you and it is not more that twelve hours since you bid.

When buying on e bay look out for sellers who cancel a false bid to find your maximum so just before the auction ends they can bid you up to just below it.

Its safer to bid last minute but its not much of an auction then.

Someone did a dodgy bid once to see what my reserve was on a car I was selling, first bid straight up to 8 grand ... quite annoying.

Last minute bidding is the only way. I never bid before the last 30 seconds, otherwise all your doing is pushing the price up. I never understood why people don't see that. I must have disappointed many people by sneaking one in there in the last 10 seconds!

Depends on how much you wanna buy it! If someone has placed a max bid, then a last minute bid is normally unlikey to buy it!
