Sonny Levi - Dhows to Deltas

One of the best powerboating books you can buy.
I should have a copy of Levi's other book, "milestones in my designs" in the next few weeks.

Matt,

You should have posted it on here before E-bay. How much are you looking for?

I put it on ebay cos I'm not really sure what it's worth. As Mr Fin says, a used but reasonably good condition 1st edition is fetching £80, but they're being advertised at up to 150 quid!!!!
This is the 2nd edition, but brand new condition.

Dhows to Deltas

Matt
Couldn't agree more. Both books are superb, a good read and lots of info. I'm very fortunate in that I own a copy of each and a Sonny Levi designed race boat.

Both of these books are great, but 'Milestones' is quite superb, especially the visuals, cutaway drawings & other images.

Christmas Present

If you are still looking for last minute Christmas presents -

Dhows to Deltas 2nd Edition

"Written by one of the most stimulating personalities in high speed boat design, this book is part autobiography, partly an intriguing account of the author's design experience, and finally a section dealing with the theoretical and practical considerations underlying the design of fast craft, leading to imaginative thinking about speed and the future. Forming an Appendix is a most important and highly technical paper on propellers by Peter Du Cane, himself one of the worlds leading high speed designers throughout the last 35 years, and Klaus Suhrbrier, senior hydrodynamicist of Vosper Thorneycroft. The book is generously illustrated, including a large number of drawings of Renato Levi's design drawings which have never been published before, and also many photographs. It is fortunate that a man gifted with brilliant design talent, who also has such a wide experience of constructional and practical high speed problems, should be able to write with clarity and enthusiasm; his book also shows the author as a human being who combines charm with élan."

Milestones in my Designs

"The choice of Milestones of my Design proved to be more difficult than I thought. I did not want this book to be a "catalogue" of my work in pure chronological order because it would be boring. A work of this kind should have more variety of topics and should involve items on the human level with anecdotes and stories, especially funny, greatly enriching the reading. The choice of projects-precursors, over a thousand, was not a simple matter really. I had no doubt in a select few: My Hope, A Speranziella, Surfury so on their own merits as avant-garde hull designs, but for others it was not easy. Some poetic license may be used and maybe some projects are only valid for the owner, for good memories or simply because they were funny. Surely when it comes to the performance of a boat you end up talking about the dynamic that is not really appreciated by all. That's why I included at the end of the book, three technical appendices: the design of planing boats, flaps and surface drives."
