Twin Mercury 275 Cosworth for
I want to sell 1 set of 2 Mercury Black Max 275 Hp 2 stoke V6 Cosworth Casting ( counter rotating).
Both Outboards have been manufactured in 1987. First sold new from the box in 1995. Since then total running hrs 68
The package comes together with 2 Stainless steel prop´s, instruments, wire harnesses oil tanks, throttle and starter key´s

Thats not really true.
As long as you dont rev them hard they are fine - ok the power to weight is v poor and they are certainly not race motors and by no means economical (as i know from 1st hand experience ), but propped right and in the right application im sure they are great!
If they were that unreliable you surely wouldnt be able find them anymore and there are still some good examples to be found even though they didnt produce too many

I,ve had 2 of those ,1 was a 20 inch 300 performance engine ,with no performance at all,and threw a rod after a few hours off no performance use.
This engine has the nicasil plating on the bare ali,like the 2,4 EFI
The other was a 25 inch 1991 fishing engine with no power ,but it ran pretty good ,as i bought it in florida for a part engine because I needed a lower unit ,but it did run well.
I think those engines are 50-70 hp overrated in horsepower,but produce decent torque at low rpm,s.
I did work on a triple set of 275,s about 6-7 years ago,they were sitting on a 41 ft Marathon console boat on a huge bracket,she did run 55 mph wot,and I found it not that bad back then,considering the boat weight like a freighttrain.

No - its a 3.4 litre block which is not derived from the 2.5. It was originally produced by Merc but due to reliability issues, they contracted the casting of the block to Cosworth castings.
I will post some pics later of the merc cast early models, some of which were shorties and supposedly race motors! They were abosolute monsters!

Here is a pic of a merc 3.4 race version - i think they were called T4s? loads on scream and fly about them
some were even EFI :0

You are right ,the early blocks were not cosworth castings ,the blocks are somewhat different ,the old style not cosworth has no oil injection ,thus the crank had no gear,and no provision was cast into the block for an oil shaft,the nicasil was like the 2,4 attached to the bare ali,the pistons were forged (mahle)and the surface of the block was not that smooth ,and painted matt black ,the heads are a bit different too,although they share the o ring type sealing (like the 3,0 L mercs )
mine was carburated 20 inch,and had a selenoid mounted to a set butterfleis that choked the engine ,just like older style 2,4 or 2,0 L mercs from the 80,s.
