I assume its just for the sound (like me). Having spoke to Burty on Saturday why not just drill it out or to be almost technical, put another vent in.

There is a way of doing a 'sleeper' job - completely hidden, doesn't weaken the mid, and can be closed off again if you need to, but still gives ya the noise. I'll see if I've got the details.
