Wanted soon - inboard mono, what to get??
Hi all,
Well the cat's pretty much all sorted now, took her out for a good run last night and she was flying! That said, I've now found out that i can't keep her where i want to (and it was the last place i could) and she's just not going to be as 'family friendly' as i had hoped. Due to these reasons I'm going to be selling her and looking for something a bit more sensible.
Ideally I'd like something around the 25ft mark with a single inboard. Something like an extreme, ring 24, converted P25, hard top revenger etc. It wouldn't need to have a cabin of any form as it wouldn't get used, but i don't mind if it does. Use would be fast pleasure with the odd basic race thrown in. I'd like it to be able to do 70mph, but i'm open to others that won't.
Does anyone have anything suitable for sale?
Also, what kind of thing would people suggest i look at? I was thinking an ex racer would be good as it'd be up to the basic races and some hard use, but i have no idea what kinda class would involve something that length with a single inboard?
I may also consider a fast rib of some form, they're quite well suited to the conditions over here!
Cheers, James

Cheers for the link Tony, bit pricey for me though!! Ideally I'd like to stick to a single engine, twins are great, but twice the expense in every way!
Could you PM me about this cougar?
Cheers, James

Lite relief looked perfect, not sure what kinda speed she'd do though? Great price too...
If she's not still available (i believe he's decided to keep her) something else similar would be great. Anyone know what speed she does?

Good work on the cat!
Modifying an old phantom 25 sounds like a really good project. What power plant are you thinking of?

I'd really, really, really like to build a P25, would have to be a big block (8.2 or something) running preferably a bravo 3 (for stability) or surface drive. One of those twin prop surface drives would be awesome! Coupled with a set of big tabs.
That said i'm not sure i could afford another project, and mrs larby would murder me! The only way i could do it would be if i got one cheap enough to justify building it during work time, so i can pay myself to build it.
Would be an awesome build though, great in the rough! Dowdy's doing a similar build at the mo.

Raced (sat in) a P25 copy in Malta (where else!) with a 496HO and XR drive, very well balanced boat and went very well indeed!
How much for the P25 Dowdy?

Ohhhhh, now you're making me want to do that even more! What kinda speed did the P25 copy do?
How much work is there involved in fitting a V8 into an ex-outboards boat, basically?
Cheers, James

Remove the transom well and go up another foot, mines been done:devil Back end is all plated up with 1/8 ally sheet up from the keel,up transom along the top and then bent down again,it has had two engines on a stand off bracket bolted to it and never moved anywhere, putting an inboard in now a piece of p s,just stiffen the longitudual stringers.Cookee, make an offer,or talk to larby,he knows what she stands me at,its not a lot

I think we were doing 94mph - it had a centre console for the gear lever and trim tabs, it ran really well in the incoming swell with a bit of chop on it - it flew nice and level where the outboard boats were all landing stern first - great cigarette style paint job as well!

I would be happier with a Bravo 3X or an XR with a 525, but I am only going on second hand information - I think the boat had a bow tank, but wouldn't need it for pleasure use, I think the fuel was under the floor but don't quote me on that - I think the 496 HO are around 420hp? so with an extra 105hp it would be very quick! Might be a bit much for the hull.
I reckon JF, TD or Steve Baker would be by far the best people to talk to if you're really serious! My experience is quite limited with inboards and you'll need to get the right X dimension before you start anything - still a 525 in a P25 would be an amazing boat - the only people I know are doing anything like that are the ski race boys in Belgium - Bernico.

Now you mention it you might be right, senility must be sinking in! - it could have been the same as the ones that gave all of the problems on the Phantom 28 with twin V8's if anyone remembers? I think it might be Procharger? TD would know I think?
