Nothing really happened my dad and brothers came down for the wedding, we went out in the boat my brother driving dad in the back where going along about 50 mph with dad in the back., Dad tapped me on the shoulder to say he could here knocking we stopped the engine to inspect. It started again but there was definitely a knocking noise turned it off couldn’t see anything catching on the fly wheel went to start again and it had seized.

Managed to get a tow in and just made the wedding rehearsal on time.

Wasn’t going flat out calm day had been out in the boat for 20mins prior with the father in law who didn’t want to go any faster than 35mph. Don’t know what the F*ck happened.

Looking at the pics if anyone wants to comment feel free had only done 15 hours on the new engine been running it in for 10 hours!

I HATE XR2’s ! Don’t know what to do fix it or sell for parts, I am not spending another 2K on these b@stard engines that’s for sure.

Why not put a "stock" (ie 2.5 200) powerhead on instead?
Less stressed, less rpms, more torque etc.

I chnaged the jets and it ran another 5 hours on the chnaged jets fine. Would I sticky float valve cause the engine to idle at 2,000rpm even though the linkage was not holding the carbs open?

Regarding the chap who built the negine he says no warranty on "Race Engines" I do think this is a little unfair, and we will see what what can negoiate.

I have heard a few people say put a 200HP powerhead on instead. I am just looking for a cost efficent way to fix it as I want to buy a bigger boat preferably an oil burner as they dont seem to go bang so much!

high idle

Idle at 2k with carbs closed????
I would say you have a air leak somewhere.

What has gone.

I've got pleanty of experience or blowing up XR2 whilst running in, and that too was for the 10hr period.

Bought a motor from Nico (Bernico) and ran it in for 2 hrs as per instruction ran fine no problems at all.

I would say you could get an XR2 for around 1-1.5k drop on turn key motor.

If you are going to repair your own then look around for second hand parts.
I have loads of XR2 stuff left, including a complete motor that need a new set of pistons +40" tho (wiesco's)
Cranks £180 ea
Carbs + manifold/reeds £125
Pistons
Rods
electrics

I agree these motors can be a pain if built wrong but get a good one and they'll run for hours.

P20 Xtreme XR2 carb motor 73.9 on gps with skiier.

I told the builder about the idle but he said dont worry about it. Do you think that could have caused the problem? The Air leak? I just find it hard to believe that this can happen after 15 hours of careful boatings.

Too much air equals not enough fuel.
What size jets did you change to.

What happened to the motor, Which piston picked up.
