Do you have use of a (large) ultrasonic cleaner and a chain hoist,if so suspend the block and lower it in the tank until just the flywheel is covered and give it 30 mins on clean and have another go...

Finished making a new transom late last year,sealed it but could not fit it in time,i only had one sash clamp so screw planning was important.
