I was very surprised how well the Mini DV coped, albeit foam suspended in a Underwater Kinetics case. (which just sat on the cabin floor)

PAL video is equal to 720x576, so your image aint gonna look too good 'full screen'.

I'd without doubt go for the Mini DV recorder. You just need to mount it in a nice case with a good fitting...

we tried the PVR type hard drive idea, but the compressed video quality wasn't really up to it.

we now do the on board stuff with a remote lipstick cam, recording into a Mini DV camcorder...
