But surely you would want to have some formal recognition. I would be gutted if I won most races and at the end of the year someone else who I beat most of the time gets awarded the champion...

You can race, but you cant get points? What is the point? Or am I missing something? If they win, then they will say its because they are non-complient with the rules....?
