Could a VAT registered company (i.e. my dads) not...

Could a VAT registered company (i.e. my dads) not claim that it was for company use? Therefore not pay VAT on it?

I've seen a few people on the forum talking about american imports. Having just returned from america and seeing their much cheaper prices I have started looking into prices/process for the future....
