Looking for any info on Clive Griffiths

Clive also was a driver in the 1979 world water ski racing champs. There is a picture of his boat in this programme and I know he was the driver of the first ladies world champion. Bronwyn Wright at that event.

Looking for any info on Clive Griffiths

Just got this passed to me by Geoff Watts. My time with Clive goes back to the early 70s to about 1981. As a skier at Hartlepool Yacht Club I raced around the country, including Penarth where I first met Clive. Clive also met Barbara and I attended their wedding and Clive moved up north. I have...

1989 was not the last Giro. At least one more in 1990.

If we are looking for similar names which might tie in, there was a lady Italian skier at the Workd champs I did in Barcelona in 1985. Miriam Grignani. Boat no 167. Mostes with 2xMercs. Sounds very similar. Driven by Antonio Caimi too.

Thanks for that. Cant say I recall her or the boat. There were two or three twin outboard powered Mostes on the ski race circuit. One in particular I recall with Stefano Gregorio skiing in the mid 80s.

Nice. If the race number 197 has not been changed that boat probably belonged to Pinuccio Todeschini from Garlate, Lecco, Como as you can see in some of the earlier pictures. There are a few other pictures there of twin outboard Mostes. Thanks.

Leonardo Freyrie is available on the web, including Facebook. I have communicated with him once or twice and sent a few old photos. https://www.facebook.com/people/Leonardo-Freyrie/100015313834472 Leonardo Freyrie https://www.freyrie.com/

It does look a bit like a Seastar I must say. I had a friend who lived in Venice had a yellow Seastar with outboard engine.

It is not a Daytona. In fact I think it was an experimental ski. I had an identical one with the same steps and strakes on the underneath surface with shamfered esdges too. I dont think Freyrie made many of these. The Daytona everyone used was a flat bottomed ski and said Daytona on the top...

I think this last posts exhaust my Italian Skier and Italian Ski Race Boat pictures that I have to date. It includes a picture of Bruno Cassa in the foreground) and me at the start of the Briish GP in Penarth Wales in 1974. A start of over 70 boats!! Those were the days!

I think though, that year, we parked our RV Camper outside the Cantiere Colombo boatyard in Menaggio?

Sorry to hear you lost your mother so early. Very sad. As was Caimi’s unfortunate accident.

I remember visiting the Tulio Abbate shipyard in about 1975 when our race was at Tremezzo (with prizegiving at Villa d’Este). The main thing I remember (strangely enough) was a black De Tomaso Pantera parked outside. First I had ever seen.

It surely depended on the water conditions. Mostes and Abbate during my time were all BPM Vulcano motore with V or direct drives. Fletchers were either outboard or stern drive which were more adjustable in rough water. Most had trim tabs or flaps too. Later I think some twin outboards fitted to...

I knew Bruno Cassa and raced against him in 1973 and 1974 and then later raced against his son Carlo in the 1985 world championships in Spain. When racing on lake Como, we would often during training, ski across to Bruno’s ski school. His mantra for training himself was “Slalom, Slalom...
