94 Mph

I have the fastest Phantom record at Windermere which is 90.62 mph average, Nippon Express A13 PHANTOM 19 with a 280 hp Merc Offshore 1.87 gearbox and Raker 26 prop and I have the RYA certificate to prove it .

I could be wrong but I don't think a Phantom 19 with a 2.5 EFI fits into an RYA class!

And I happen to know that he did do that speed as well!

John, is OCR 'X' not an unlimited version of OCR 'A'? I'm not arguing, I genuinly don't know, but had a feeling there was something like that at one time.

No there has never been an unlimited OCR class - X class is the old 2 litre and A class is now the old B class which is 1.8 litre - got that?

If you've ever watched an OCR race you'd know why they couldn't have an unlimited class - they are all nutters - I know I used to navigate in a 2 litre phantom 18!

It would be great to be able to blame them but it was an OCR decision based on the fact that XR2's are being (have been) phased out - they needed a new "A" class but they couldn't just tell everyone with XR2 engined boats they couldn't race anymore - hence the "A" and "X" designations.

Hope that makes it a bit clearer!

You sure about that Cookee, I thought the X classification was used for Experimental. If what your saying is true, how could he set a record in 2 litre with what appears to be a 280hp 2.5efi???

Tony - That's the point! It is why it isn't in PB1 as a record as it doesn't fit in any class and it wasn't a record - at least officially anyway - but they will give you a certificate for anything.

I think it was you with JF that got the certificate from Windermere with the extreme wasn't it?

I was trying to keep it as simple as possible but actually "A" class is the experimental one - I think for another year - and "X" class is the "Ex" 2 litre class.

I think my head is going to explode!

The certificate I received was a 'Index of Performance' as an OCR boat with a 280hp. It did not fit into any class. If I knew how to post a picture I would post the certificate I received. The previous holder was 'British Airtours' in a 20' Phantom. When OCR 'A' class raced Internationally, we had to use an 'X' prefix instead of an 'A' according to UIM rules. I think that should clear things up.

I would like to add that we had a lot of fun getting that speed as things were really happening fast. What really made me laugh was seeing a lot of officials running down the pontoon saying an OCR boat couldn't go that fast.They thought it was a 2ltr ha! ha!This year I might try the same motor on my batboat . Any volunteers?
