Hi - I know this is not actually a power boat - so please excuse the newbie post.

My brother and I have just been given a speed boat. My mate from work just spent thousends on a new rib and needed the garage space... right place, right time. !

We are desperate to get it up and running asap but we have a few problems.

Firstly - I take it there is no equivalend V5 registration document for boats ?

Our problems are this
1 - We have no idea of the Make \ Model \ Age of the boat - It's a 16ft Fiberglass speedboat and came with a non-running Mariner 60hp outboard.

2 - we cant source proper insurance or help \ parts untill we determine what it is we now own !

Any help will be greatly appreciated, and if we manage to get it running this spring, I'll see you on the Scottish Loch's this summer !!

Hi, welcome to Boatmad!

No, there's no V5 equivalent document, the closest would be the 'Small Ships Register' (SSR) which I doubt your new craft on.

I'm sure someone here will be able to identify your boat, as for the year of manufacture, if it's older than '98, which it probably is, there was little regulation as far as hull numbers etc. but it could have a 'date marking' on the right hand side of the transom.

Over to you Chaos!!

Forgive my total ignorance - what the hec is a 'transom' ?

Yes, the transom is the "rear end.. :)

Caledonia,

Judging by the size of those seats and the look of your trailer, I reckon your boat is nearer 12-13 ft rather than 16. Age wise, it looks to be around late 70's early 80's.

Tell your insurance its a 1980 13 ft Fletcher. I can't see them arguing or checking up.

Thanks for the info,

The trailer is a full 16 1\2 ft long tho, maybe the picture is not the best.
It's also possibly not the original seats either, but I hoped it would be a Fletcher !

in wot way is it a non runner does it turn over ?

Caledonia, it's hard to tell from the pic what boat it is, it looks like a marina or one of its variants, if you post some more pics of it from different angles someone might recognise it.

Also if you write up the engine serial and model no's we can tell you the year. The no's are located on the starboard side (right side looking forward) of the clamp bracket (the bracket that holds the engine to the boat). They should be on a little plate riveted to the bracket.

Nice boat too :)

Alan
