Building SW-32

Most of you will know this boat as a SwipeWipes 32 but recently moulds have change their home

Would like to show the building progress under the Madness Marine name. Hope it will not be worse than the original boat.

Boat will be bit modified to have 4-5 seat cockpit and twin outboard engines
Will be build as a race/pleasure boat.

Congratulations!
Are you sticking a plant in the mould for some steps or are you sticking with the original strait hull?

I'm thinking about steps...
On one hand it should be faster on calm water
On the other hand if I will make mistake with designing steps ( their hight, angle and lenght, and their position on the boat ) it could be worse then original hull

But first things first - I have to clean and polish those moulds
They are in really good shape but they where sitting outside for some time
Hope to start doing it at weekend

Good luck! What motors are you thinking of? The V8 Yanmars at 370hp each would make it go well!

At over 500 hp each it would only need one to go a reasonable pace, two would be preferable for the petrol heads on here (that would be everyone?).

For that money I would get a twin 1350 propably. Still would be fun to run with twin 557 set up. Could be pretty fast

Still want to get outboard power.
I think that they are more reliable with less maintance than I/B. Offcourse I'm not talking about 2,5 litre racing mercs or XR2's

Propably twin yamaha F250's and light set up. Light / Heavy enough to meet marathon D class rules if I would get possibility to race in this boat some day

Maybe modern mercs 300's or verados 350's, maybe Etec 300's but time will tell.

Cookee, diesels are quite expensive here and cost of fuel starts to be little higher than petrol So no point for me to get diesels :-(

Was talking to Jon and he said that his Steyr's takes about 63 litre per hour at WOT. Yamaha F250 takes around 70-75 litres per hour. So the difference isn't that big. Also if it comes to power to weight ratio, outboards have some advantage

I've heard about it. Worse thing in Etec are still their ECU's in my opinion

When it come to Yamaha I have threated hard my 200 ProV and modern F200 (with solid motor mounts on F200) and didn't have any single problem with them

The Evinrude powerheads and electronics are exceptional, but the saddles and mounting hardware does need some work to take the abuse of offshore racing... It's not too tough to do, and solid mounts are available for the big block V6s

Looks great.

Offcourse as you can see there is a lot of white stuff coming from the trees but still looks great

Waxing starts monday. 7 or 8 times

Still got a box of patterns for the deck if they are any use to you.
Not sure what happened to the ones for the hull unless Fuller had them.

Jon, cleaning wasn't that bad. I thought that I will have to use sandpaper with water after these 6 years but finally I manage to do everything with water and polishing paste. Its now back in mirror like condition

Kitten, thanks but I will start laminating it in August ( will not have much time before ) so I will make those patterns again. Thanks anyway.



At the moments I'm cleaning moulds, polishing them and waxing 3 or 4 times.
I'm also ordering every bits I need to laminate it and make structural reinforcements.
I have to wait for some bits for 6-7 weeks from day of order

I will have another laminator after 15th of August who will help me with it and than I want to start building it. Also I will have place in bigger hall after 15th. My garage is quite big but not big enough for that boat.

Don't want to laminate something than leave it than laminate another thing etc. I want to do it in one process.

Of course I will cover the moulds after those 4 layers of wax and I will put another 4 layers right before laminating in August
