URGENT TO ALL BOAT LOVERS

Yet another famous racer Spirit of Ecstacy, has been broken up . the situation now is becoming serious with many craft from the 60's and 70's being destroyed unnecessarily.... Your history is being lost ! if these were Classic Cars there would be uproar Yet it seems an unloved boat of a certain age is regarded as nothing more than firewood..When is everyone gioing to wake up to what is happening to these irreplaceable boats...
THIS IS A DIRECT APPEAL TO EVERY BOAT OWNER TO REPORT TO C.O.P.O.C via John Iddon or Tony Fiddy ex racers locations, condition and owner if possible in an attempt to stop the needless destruction of historical craft . None of you racing today would be there if it was not for the men and their boats at the start of modern day racing in the 60's who pioneered the designs and regulations that set todays standards !
Please help us in anyway possible.
Thanks for your time
Mike James

Shady Lady is about a guy on here was involved with it but I didn't keep the PM. Over Kent way
A classic pre- Avenger shead built by Souter

OK Shady Lady where are you ?,an ex Maurice Hardy boat let us know how you are where you are etc etc.

Oh the Midas is coming on slowly & now in it's 15th year.
What about a classic class at Coniston

'Shady Lady' was for sale in Sussex FridayAds about four months ago. It was/is located behind an engineers workshop in West Sussex on the A24 near Dial Post. I had a look at it. It needed alot of work on the woodwork. It still had straight-six Volvo fitted with manifold for three carbs, but no carbs present. When I drive past again, i'll post the name of the workshop.

One from the gallery of it

note the little fin on the underside................. works well too
you can see the classic "Avenger" lines was just under 20' the next one built was a tad longer at 21' something

Let us know what you find out

'Shady Lady' was for sale at B & G Machining. Tel No (01403) 864471. I couldn't see if it was still there as a truck was parked in the way. It might be worth a call, but be prepared for a lot of work!

I spoke to B&G Machining today, they said Shady Lady has been sold.
Her new owner lives on the south coast possibly near Chichester.

Whats the idea with the fin then?

Keeps you swimming in a straight line & cuts down the chine walking

Hope the new one looks after her & gets her back to a good running condition
I'm banned from anymore projects:violin:

Me too! Luckily 'er in doors doesn't mind one boat too much, but two projects might be pushing it!

Shady Lady

That Shady Lady was a Levi......
Maurice then bought Fast Lady from Norman Ramsayer after he sank her of Yarmouth, then he had Telstar.67 C/T/C winner
Talking of saving boats if anyone knows where UFO (Formul 28 ex Tim P)last seen full of water in a Sussex cae park still with Holmans in place, or Jackie S last seen Fareham, ex Savundra/John Robinson.
Have they actually cut up Spirit or can we stop it?????????????????

Shady Lady

Hi Tim-B-C
Sorry mate have to disagree, Shady Lady looks like a Levi but im sure its
a Shead. Norman raced a Levi (141) Rebel1B Built by Maritime Technical in 1969? -- Fast Lady???? He also raced Wicked Lady (141) Shead /Souter
Daimler in 1970?-- Maurice raced Wicked Lady (16) Shead/Souter Aero Marine
in 1967?-- Shady Lady was also raced in 1971 by William Nievens race No now
(15)----------Have spoken to the new owner of Shady Lady and hope to see
her in a couple of weeks time, will try and get some pics.Having said all this i
could be wrong !!??

Soz

Stan Norman and Norman ran Rebel IB and then you are very correct it was Wicked not Fast, but Maurice bought after they sank her of yarmouth, so wrong again.......................But if it was Don's design of the original it was a very early one, Fat Cat was built the same time as Shady and i'm sure it was a Levi, Martin would put us all right...
Which Shady are you seeing the original or the Wicked/Shady??
Would love to find the wicked one, did a bit of testing with Norman before the Needles in I think 70 after Faireys had put in a new long distance tank and fuel system and delivered her to Dorset Lake without ibstructions..... spent hours try ing to work it floating round Poole harbour begging passing boats for jump start, 'cos we flattened the battery every time we ran out of fuel !!!!!!!!!!
Any one know where Red Aligator is now?
Shaft ( Keith Horseman) was in Marbella for along while

Graham Stevens will know for sure whether or not it's a Shead, he worked for Shead for 31 years.

Shady lady

Its Shady im going to see, will confirm designer after viewing, im sure its a
Shead though, especially as i own a Levi!! Last heard Wicked was in Scotland.

Lines of it are very much a shead as opposed to a levi which tended to have the classic delta lines with much larger and sharper rails, looks so close to the 19' GRP production boat. Still we will all be put out to grass soon and was a long time ago so we are allowed to slip once in blue moon. Poor old cells are not as good as they once were. Last time I see it was when Nobby Nievens had it up for sale behind his car showrooms down goldhawk road, think thats now been redevloped as a refuge for lesbo, gay, blic, un-married mothers who are looking for the meaning of life.
Broad Jumper Jr was a levi as I recall around the same time ??
Melodrama with a couple of 280's oh Yehhhhhhhhhhh

Confirmation from the 1971 Round the Island entry list - Shead has it!!
