Cowes 2012 Update

If you note P1 Superstock are racing at Weymouth on 15th / 16th September where the UKOBA event was on the RYA calendar for 22nd / 23rd September.

I understand that P1 had some problems with running their final event at Southampton so took over the "vacant" slot left by UKOBA at Weymouth including a date change.

how on earth can "The Organisers" expect entries to a race without a course, race instructions or entry forms?

Maybe of they had come up with some information for the racers there would have been some entries - personally I'm getting fed up of being blamed for the demise of races where the organisers make no effort. Once again it's down to John this year to make Cowes work for which all of us racers can be extremely grateful - all others take note!

Rant mode off!

How much info do you need ??

Torquay 5th - 7th October 2012. For further information please ask !!

So how many have confirmed for Torquay ? Sadly it seems that when an event is offered they suddenly have to have their hair done or tidy their sock drawer on that particular day !!

Fortunately all of everyones prayers are to be answered in 2013 with the Offshore Powerboating GB series we are just waiting for your clubs to reply and get on board. so far its OCRDA, P1ss & Thundercats so talk to YOUR club reps and make sure they respond.

Ben,
Sadly we didn't make it to Cowes, well not with D2S anyway.
Went testing weekend prior to Cowes and managed to dump half of Southampton Water in Starboard Engine.
Mark and myself worked all day Monday to find and rectify problem. We spent All day Weds and Thurs rebuilding engine and getting it running.
Then for some reason the engine gods became unhappy and the engine would not run properly.
We gave ourselves a deadline of 14.30Hrs to be away from Drivers on Saturday, but by 11.00 we had been told by the Man in the know with the Laptop that he couldn't get the engine out of Guardian Mode because it was flagging several sensor faults which he didn't have.
We put the old girl back to bed and preceded to Cowes to have an enjoyable weekend.
Still work to to do.
Next Year we will be there!!!

Thanks Graham, that explains it.

I said I agree with you Jon.
No, the race organiser/s have a duty, if they are serious about running a race, to circulate potential entrants & encourage their support.
One cannot take the easy route & blaim entrants solely - blaim, if it is needed, should be shared.
Marathon Racing needs more than 2 races in a season - maybe another from DDB in So'ton should be planned for 2013, but by whom ? Don't expect "the usual suspects", we need more promoters.

Martin, Would it be obvious to go in with the Roma Offshore race, not sure in this climate if its viable, but may stir the Italians interest up a bit more!!
May raise interest in a joint sponsorship for both venues, which would be good!!

Roma / Cowes 100 / CTC , 3 race series for the Marathon World Cup!!

Mascot

Who was the Joker who strapped Eric to the handrail on the bow?
no wonder Markus came second Eric should have been in the cockpit !!!!!!!!

and here he is.....or is it Cinzano's lucky mascot!!!!

It is something to be considered.
The RMYC Race, now at the end of May (this year) is also a contender.
Cowes 100 needs a club to run it, & we have three in the UK, plus possibly the Roma race too.

Sadly I told my wife sometime ago that we never race in October, I will be on an island somewhere off the coast of West Africa that weekend .............

Is the crew member starboard side sitting on the bolster? Either that or he's 9' tall!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fantastic footage with some nice editing to bring in the engine noises at the right time! Nice one.

That's Richard. He's even taller than me! They call me the "Offshore Giraffe".

I think he may take over the title.

Jeff, there is no `MAY` about it. Think about poor little Christian in the middle, he`s only 6ft, makes him the team short A***

I thought some of you may like to see this…..the old man dug it out at the weekend to remind me that the first CTC I went to see was in 1972, which he finished in a 28’ Smuggler called Freebooter. I then finished the same race exactly 40 years later.......

Cookie,

Is there a separate bilge drain fitting at the rear of each step?

No the dump for the bow tank is in the forward step - those sections are sealed.

They are from Rob Clifford - see link further up the thread!
