Engines(s)
Kad 300s. 300xs Dbr .d6 370 230 4tec
just done 100 hours in me boat burns around 7 gph red deisel @ £1.35 p/g
works out spent £945.00

if this where a petrol boat i would think 11 gph @pontoon prices£4.20 p/g iwould spend £4620.00 quite a saving.!!!

By coincidence, I've done a similar calculation!!

I feed me mules once a day wiv' a bale of hay and a handfull of oats at £1.20 a bale and...call it a quid for the oats... that means I can run all day for the price of a pint! However, If I'd fitted one of them smelly ol' diesel things, I reckon I'd be using about two gallon a day... at, say£1.60 a gallon.. Wow ! a saving of a quid! Bloomin' eck... I'll soon be rich!
Of course, me mule am reeeeal slow, so can only manage to cover 16 miles or so, whereas an old stinkpot will cover say 32 miles or so! Bummer... it's off to the knackers yard for me mules then.......:seaman:

And in another year or so when we loose red diesel it will have cost you £2940.00. Not so much of a saving then, plus, if you had petrol you wouldn't do so many hours coz you'd go a lot faster, and consequently get where your going sooner!!!

we will have to wait and see.!!!

but if i do 200 hours will save even more !!
i'am off to cobbs get some more hours on it:brain:

..'cause as me barge is a commercial craft, wiv' me plyin' me trade from it I can claim back the duty on me fuel... so the current rate of duty on hay is... bugger! Now if I put a nice clean petroleum spirited enginey thingy... I'll be quids in!:violin:

That not too bad then at least 2 years... dont think the govt will make a decision till 6-12month before....

we want o buy a sunseekr thunderhawk 43 and re-engine with these new D6 Volvos diesels 350hp with new DPX drives...
idea would be to charter this as well to cover some expenses...
but lifting of tax exemption could scupper our plans!!

The Thunderhawk is a lovely boat! I reckon that would be a nice package, and would probably see 50mph.

just seen matts post, wasn't intending to start a speed debate

D6 350's would probably make a 'genuine' 350, and that boat could take the weight easily.

yes think the Thunderhawk is one of the best looking they built
also it one huge sundeck so would be ideal for chartering etc...

think its the dpx read there a new drive out with this D6 slimmer (lees drag)and full hydraulic....

JF you reckon 50 ?? that would be great, its a lump at 16,000lbs
do you know much more on these new D6's ? there a bit heavier than the yanmar 315 or kad 300 but seems the only way to go... without the expense of shafts or surface drives...

Getting back on topic, I reckon, over the last two weekends, I've used about 60-65 galls of diesel, the hourmeter has climbed by 11 hours, but mebbe an hour, or an hour and a half was spent running at idle/meesing about in neutral, so say 9 hours true running, so looking on lowest hours/highest consumption, it's using 7.2 halls/hour average!(about a tener an hour) not bad when most of the time I'm travelling at 60 or more.

If we lose the battle for duty free derv, it's gotta be a rotten egg for Blair

Pascoe's putting a pair in an SR9 :aaahhh: they have a narrower chine beam than mine :speechles

with 330 volvos (300 if you're lucky) they run 40 odd (upper)

A mate has one (in fact two), very nice indeed.

cheap boating

well thats pretty cheap boating . when i took delivery of my boat exprees had a 40 bora there twin 310 d6 boat ran 45 knots with 300 kads only 39 knots so the d6 seems to do the biss and burned less fuel

Thats the 330hp petrol running 45mph ish ??

would of though a pair of D6 would sink a SR9 !!

where does your friend keep his Thunderhawks? would love to have a close look at one

the only ones i have seen are in spain with petrols

so would be looking at transport back £4k
2 D6's ??
re-engining ??

last sunday fuel was on 1/4 and we stuck only 15quid in (as we were at salterns and its a rip off!) and we had that much in loose change...

we ran straight from poole to needles then in via alum bay , toting bay and round the castle, back to mudford, then round to bmth, did 1 hour of sking trawled around back to Cobbs
and the fuel was just under 1/4 !!!
now thats a cheap days entertainment!!!
