Delta 25

I've pm'd a couple of you and thanks to you guys for the info so far. However, I'm interested to hear from anyone with any info on Delta 25s

I've just bought one called Delta Tango that I intend to restore. It was re-engined with a small block 5.8 Ford including a King Cobra drive in 1995/6, Used for two years and has been out of water since. Even though the engine and drive have less than 70hrs on them the motor has seized so I intend to replace it with a 6.2 vortec small block.

I would like to know how many were built & years of production. Would also be keen on any period photos.

I love that photo of Delta Lady racing in 1974, Thanks so much for posting that.

What engine(s) did she have? And that mast mine's missing have you got one?

She had a single 888 v8 mercruiser and the mast was added by David Still to make the steaming light legal for the race. Incidently, the engine mounts on Delta Lady were not fitted correctly on Delta Lady and as a result they collapsed off Portland Bill. On return to the Emsworth yard they were redesigned and all future Delta 25s had the new design mounts. The 888 put out about 190 hp which doesn't sound much by todays standards but she did more than 40 mph and even pulled up 6 skiers at once at a ski show.

Presumably the mounting collapse was the end of the race for you?? Did you race the boat again?
What restoration work are you doing to the boat?
Mine has a Chrysler 318 around 225hp does about 40 knots.
Glad to hear there are a few of these boats left would be nice to see some in the historic class for CTC (probably doing the short course)

Sounds like a plan and it seems that there are at least 4 owners (me, Deltamad, amott & freddie) on here with Delta 25 so we should give it a go.

Always had a soft spot for these boats. I think it was their likeness to the Gardner Bros. racer. Is there a yellow one still around the IOW? I remember seeing one afloat many times as a kid.

The yellow one in Bembridge was Fleche Dor which belonged to a good friend and berthed alongside Delta Lady in Bembridge. Fleche Dor ( now pained white) was sold recently by Boatshed and I believe she now has a Yanmar which meant cutting into the rear bench seat to extend the engine compartment. Not an option in my view. My new delta will, as far as posible, be restored as original but I am putting a 300hp 5.7l magnum in her I think this will work well.

300 hp will be good in that boat but knowing how good the hull is it would take a fair bit more. the last time i saw our old one it was out the water at john foulkes yard on the hamble just by the motorway bridge,the new owner was trying to scrape off 20 odd years worth of antifoul

I am definately interested in next years race so I will contact you for info. I am also trying to find out more info on my present boat. All I know is that it has been in a barn for 15 yrs. It was a fully finished boat boat from David Still with all the extras including a plumbed in toilet, Twin 140 mercruisers, the longer pulpit, pushpit rails, an original stainless steel anchor guide and a compass set in a teak seating all original. I suspect that not many Delta 25s were built with this spec. If anyone remembers this boat I would be grateful for info.

What's the name of your Delta? as this may help someone remember.

Mine's called Delta Tango does anyone know anything about it? It was imported to the rock from the Birmingham area 10+ years ago.

Boating in Birmingham eh.....not the same as over here its all canals ain't it ?
That boat is really nice is it the one I spied up Pleimont way ?
Should race it locally my 21ft Tremlett would give that a run for the money in classic class

I didn't know we had a classic class...maybe then. Although I've never raced before so I suspect I'd be pants.

How quick are you expecting the Tremlett to be?

No name on the boat unfortuately although there is a registration number inside O.N. 359281. I'm wondering if this is like an SSR Number but for inland waterways does anyone know
