I've just bought an '09 200HO to go on my Ring 21C with combined lifter/gill bracket. Total setback is around 17". I'd like to rig the motor so that the highest setting of the lifter is the highest I can ever run the motor when flat calm. I know the HO's have low water pickups but is it safe to run way up? Will a low water pressure reading put it in limp mode as a failsafe?

I'm new to all this modern stuff

yes it alarms and shuts down, on mine with about 8" setback 2" below was the highest i could go but it was rubbish as it seems the evinrudes like to run quite deep

Go careful, most lifters are at their weakest when they are lifted right up, its ok to have the lifter up in the marina but dont think racing with them up

my lifter's not the sliding type Jacques, it's just as strong in any position. What kind of prop were you running Burty? Guess I'm just going to have to have a play and see what happens

Oh right, should be good then, uve definitly bought an awesome motor, wont give u any of the troubles the old mercs do!!

I hope so! I'd just learnt my way around an old Merc and we were quite happy working on it ourselves... Hopefully this cowl won't need to come off and we can at least make it to the startline!

by the look of what happened to dans its not the lifter u should be worried about being weak its what bolted to the lifter!!

should go well thou, huge brute of a motor with loads of power!!

My lift is high mounted. So at highest it is little over half of total lift.

I have a stepped bottom. And i got help from a 9 year old boy to hold the rope, so it is not exacly in line from the step.

Pic 1. is down
Pic 2 is 4" up
