Does anyone know if there is now a central record of finance held on a boat in the same way that finance on cars is recorded?

Suprisingly not! It's up to the seller to prove title. You can't even ask the usual lenders, as data protection prevents them from telling you.

there isn't,but if its on ssr they usually record liens against the boat.

I don't think that's right. An SSR registration simply records the information as submitted on the application form, and means nothing at all!

PArt 1 registration records details of any shares in a boat as parts of 64. It's a historic thing from the days when sailing ships were owned by big consortiums of people up to a 64th. If you own the whole boat you have 64/64, half the boat 32/64 etc. The registration also includes any details of moneys loaned against the boat. HPI also ran a scheme with the British Marine Federation where new boat sale loans were recorded with them, not actually sure wethere that is still going, think it waas called Boatmark or something.

Cookee I did have a quick look at your ally step off boxes in Cowes and the angle would probably be too tall to waterjet cut, happy to have a go though. You weren't around at the time otherwise I would have stopped to chat, but I will send you a brochure.

Thanks mate, if you give me your maximum height then maybe we can do some design work to make it possible!

SSR holds no such info. - additionally anyone who is british can just apply for an SSR. I have - by accident - TWO ssr's for the raceboat!
Full ships register does hold the information if it is sent by the person making the loan.
