is there a map that give you gps locations?

Errm, Dont quite understand the question. A map will give you coordinates for somewhere e.g. lat/long or OSGB grid. A GPS will give you your location - either in lat/long OSGB etc etc. GPS and map or chart = ability to fix your position & navigate ;)

Or are you asking whether you can get a GPS and map combined? Cos thats what a chartplotter is.

Or is this a funny that I am not getting.:(

I have a Etrex GPS which has a Waypoint system. So I was wondering how you convert/whatever the position on a map to a GPS coordinate you can input into the device?

marine or land use

if it's land use you could interface with a slightly olderversion of P Nav Pro or Personal Navigator. Crude but works

Dont know on the marine front

its marine use. There must be a way of working out the GPS coordinates from the map coordinate?
You sure you dont want to sell that lifting eye???
:p

Do I take it that you go to sea in your boat and don't know how to use a chart. May I suggest that for the safety of yourself and other boaters you get down to a decent chandlery and buy a book on navigation, It is really quite important to know your position at all times as there are no road signs at sea.

Bugger… no wonder I keep getting lost! My AtoZ is OK for all the bits around the coast but it struggles a bit when you get off shore…..:D

yes I do goto sea on my boat but I never go far enough away from the port that I cant see my may back to it. I would like to learn my about nav so I can venture a little further. :)

This could liven up quite nicley :bolt:

MrRob... I've got a shitload of books'n stuff on navigation..being a well trained RIBNobba.... that you are welcome to have... I don't need 'em anyway, 'cause my SAS training means I can navigate the rough seas just by intuition....:D
I'm local to B'ham so PM me and you can come and get them sometime....

(SAS = Sanctimonious Anal Survivalist).....:D

GPS

How many other boaters out there don't know how to navigate, Basic navigation really is quite easy, If you are having trouble maybe Boatmad can have a section where those who can can help those who can't.

I can navigate with a compass and chart along the coast line but why bother when u have GPS to do all the business for you?
Ill take you up on that offer of those books Jono. I am also
ex-SAS (sanders and simpkins) lol
Ill PM ya for your address.

Cheers.
