Has any one left the uk in a phantom/ring etc and gone to france or holland? Ive always wanted to launch here and go straight across to france in the P20 but always been to scared.

Any one done it?

You could do it in a P20 alright with the right preperations. Id advise travelling in convoy with other boats for safety reasons though. The big problem is when you get to france. Cos most harbours will not let you in unless you have your boats papers and an ICC Licence. So if you dont have these you will have trouble getting the fuel for the return journey!!!

Perhaps other Boatmad members would be interested in a trip to France in the summer?

Might even indulge in a little Piracy meself along the way.:D

Burty before you reply, cardiff aint abroad mate!!:drain:

Dude i went from weston to bristol with Cyco so its well easy. i'd be up for it but scared they might arrest me for having a really nice fast boat:D :D :D :D

i dont drink dude you know that:hugegrin2

Register the boat on the small ships register, make sure you have an ICC and a VHF licence and take your insurance papers with you and you should be ok - just remember to check you are insured for going abroad - probably forgot something but it's a start!

You'd do well to register your boat with the Coastguard first, goto www.mcga.guv.uk.
Treat it like windscreen insurance ,,,,, know what I mean?

Yeah, loads of people have. Probably more people have done it in RIBs than speedboats though. :bolt:

There's no problem getting into harbours in France, nor getting fuel. Have you been given grief then? Perhaps they just didn't like the look of you!

It's certainly worth having the right paperwork just in case, but the odds are that no one will be interested.

SSR certificate
Proof of VAT payment
VHF licences

It's also a good idea to take proof of insurance and an ICC (not actually required, but I wouldn't want to be arguing the toss on the pontoon!). Definitely don't forget your passport . . .

Yawn, Yawn, bloody Yawn! come back pacific console change, all is forgiven

I don't think there will be any problems with fuel, all they want is to see the colour of your money.

I've been caught before by customs for not having my SSR so that's a must. You can download the form from the MCA sight.

When they caught me without my SSR I didn't have my passport and they weren't bothered by that!!

If you go from Poole I'll come with you or follow you at least. If you go to Alderney the fuel will be cheaper for the return trip ( compared to France )

Cheers

Mark
