use the dildo box but remember to lube up :shag:

Wallby's right, just try anything and everything until you find a set up that you get on with.

Are both boxes the same ratio?

Mind if I ask where you got the one on the right from? My dad used a box that shape in ocr years ago

If I remember correctly dad and clive worked on the shapes and in the end had great results on the Argo and then sold it to Chris Bryant

We would like to try both but the one on the left has a 20" drive shaft and is not ours to keep, and the one on the right is 15" drive shaft that will fit the setup we have got on the backdraft, just thinking is it best to cut off the right hand gearbox nose cone to then make it the same as the left hand gearbox or leave well alone. Cheers Ivan

I think it may be my old mans old box

just put it on and use it , cone on or off wouldn't of thought it would make a noticeable difference to be honest

It will make a difference for sure.

I think you'd have trouble with the dog's dick box hitting the transom without a jackplate or setback of some kind, seem to remember it being very close to the bracket on Jacques' B23

Yes you are right the dog's dick dose hit the transom, that's one of the reasons to use a jackplate, or we will have to cut off the dog's dick,
I just don't know whether or not to cut the dog's dick off or not, is it worth keeping.

Obviously I don't know the dimensions but dad ran his on a 21 Argo with no transon lift. The way I see it some one has adapted a perfectly good mercury box and left it like it. But i imagine it could be boat sspecific. Try it mate

On closer inspection it looks slightly different to what i remember. But hey good luck

Ok thanks, we best get looking for a jackplate then.

Cheers

Id be looking for a 15" driveshaft first!

Just out of interest on what experience to you make this comment on?

We tried a couple of designs on our Class III boat and it made a significant difference to the handling all in a good way - why else would people go to the trouble of making these boxes?

Roy Smith used the dog's dick style box on his B-23 very successfully. If I remember correctly he got the Royal Navy involved in its design. The idea was along the lines of 'that's the shape of a submarine so there must be a reason for it'!
