Phantom update

Hi

Brief update. We are setting up the boat with the help of Neil Holmes as well as completing the basic race training course.

Neil has been conducting propellor testing and yesterday we tested a four bladed propellor that had incredible grip and got us to 65.6MPH - a massive gain.

However, it was like riding an angry tiger - fast and dangerous. It was windy and of course, all the weight has been placed aft.....a little too much as it happens since the bow was very light and the boat was skittish at top speed - specifically into wind - Next move is some weight in the bow. Exciting to sense the boat is close to being properly set up and dialled in.

Mission system is coming on well; comms are great and the plotter is exactly where it needs to be. Can't wait to start the R and D!

I would try a Laser or a Tempest Plus before moving weight around.

Like rocking horse sh.t very hard to find and lots of people looking think you will have to have all your luck in one day to find one,I don't think that many p23 were built and not seen a p28 up for sale for years.

taz on here had a p 28 with twins for sale a while back, and his mate darren also on here had a p25 with twins also for sale me thinks, not sure if they still have tho

I remember seein an immaculate Phantom 23 race in Guernsey powered by twin V6 mercury and a tandem deck. I think it was called Aphrodisiac but the commentator revered to it as Aphrodite ! Where is it now I wonder ?
It won by the way and was just before powerboat week kicked off late seventies

Husband and wife team Peter and Jan Armstrong used to race a tandem race deck Phantom 23 with that name.

It’s one of those piece of string things, it depends on the hull, prop, engine, engine height and trim etc

On P23, where does lowest lifting strakes end with one outboard?
Does it have different lenght of lifting strakes with one outboard vs. two outboards.

I think my friend has the same black P23, and it´s still porposing after all these years.
64 knots max but without any waves it´s porpoising and its quite annoing.

There is only one mould for the 23 so no difference between single and twin hulls. What engine(s) does the boat have? Engine height makes a difference as well. Best idea is to take it to someone who can set a boat up!

With one 225 Optimax, same as first post of this topic.
How ever this one has much longer lowest lift strakes than seen at those pictures at this very same topic.
Every engine high has been tested, same as many version (0-14,5") of setback and bunch of propellors, also it´s been tested what difference does weight make at rear/front.
IMO long lift strakes creates stern lift and with only one engine it makes this unbalanced.

At this video, camera is at Phantom 23 and you can see how bouncy the ride is when weather is calm.
