Just seen this over on another forum regarding the Speed Week in the Lake District

That's excellent news, now we just need it to be open to all, ie, not just British, or world record attempts.

I can't believe letting half a dozen performance boats go for a 'performance certificate' will cause any more trouble than the record attempters.

Sorry guys, I know you have a long history of speed week, but I don't think this is good news at all.

One of the over-riding things that comes from this piece is that business is suffering since the 10mph limit and this would create a 'late season boom'

So the LDNPA don't want fast boats when it suits them, but then invites them back when it does. Where I come from thats called 'having your cake and eating it.'

The article says of the LDNPA
"After that we would want to sit down with the event organisers to discuss what they would like to do for future years and see how we could help them,"
"It could be that the organisers want to try to return to Windermere in future years, or they might appreciate holding Records Week on Coniston. We would want to discuss all options."
What shite.....they didn't sit down with the Windermere protesters to try and agree an action plan when that was proposed 2 years ago.

The article also says (event organizer) "Mr Brown said he wanted to distance the event from anti-10mph protesters who had broken the law to make their point."

I can understand not wanting to break the law but this guy should be backing the campaign to reverse the limit. The attitude of pressing ahead regardless seems like "feck you jack, I'm alright"

Towards the end of the article it says that "Cumbria Tourist Board announced plans for an emergency £60,000 media campaign following news that the county's businesses were suffering in the wake of the 10mph limit".

Save your feckin money......reverse the ban. It ain't feckin Rocket Science.

I know that this post will not be popular with a lot of people on here but I hope understand my point.

I'm sure jon's point was that it's good news that such a historical event like speed week hasn't been lost forever, not a comment on the windermere ban.

As far as the ban itself goes, I'm sure we're all in agreement that it's fkkn ridiculous at every level.
I was especially disappointed with the news reporter who kept on going on about how peace and tranquility was going to be restored to the lake, it was one of the most idiotic, biased pieces of reporting I've ever seen.

Just out of interest, were the RYA involved in any kind of consultancy process on implementing the speed limit?

I tend to agree with Ian. The ridiculous ban was always going to destroy the local economy. The last thing the local businesses need is the Records Week not staying behind their attempt to lift the ban.
Boats trying for speed records at Coniston this year would be akin to workers crossing a picket line.
Windermere has been great to us, lets continue supporting them.

I agree, an event like this should not be lost forever but I would support losing it this year to try and make sure the lakes are there for all boaters for years to come

Yeah, I think my response was probably a selfish one, I was thinking of the fact that speed week appears to be alive & well, for this year at least, and not of the longer term situation with Windermere and it's speed limit!

Apoligies for that, and as Ciao says, we've all had something from Windermere and should be looking to give something back!
