Hi!

I am sorry chasing you all, but I am confused.

I will mount twins on my Phantom this spring. The boat will run in the upper 90ties.

I have two options, although the latter is mount on without any rework.

@ 2 x Merc 2.5 SS engines - modified 260 engines by Michael Werner - approx. 315 hp on the powerhead - has to be worked on.
@ 2 x Merc 2.5 EFI engines - modified 280 engines with SVS and 20 inch midsections - is ready to drop on and drive.

Both engines uses high performance F1 rods, rings, etc. I will spin the engines to max 7.200-7.500 rpms.

Is it possible to use Brucato PCU on the Merc 2.5 EFI (modified 280 engines). Or do they have a custom ECU for the 280 ?

The PCU will not work with 280 electronics.
As far as i know only a few people in the states can chip a 280 ECU however the coil packs will still not allow you to rev past 8500RPM as they will not recharge fast enough, so you would have to change back to 260 electronics anyway.

Why use modified 2.5's if you are only going to rev them to 7500 which is where peak power is on a standard motor?

How have they been modified???? i.e port work, hogged out exhaust chest, higher compression?

not sure about the rods but with the rings wont that mean they will need rebuilding at like 20hours?

Merc 2.5 and PCU

Hi!

I will check out what has been done to the motors. Michael Werner is a very well reputated engine builder.

I reckoned I needed to change to 260 electronics to use the PCU.

Thanks.

I'm not saying he isn't a good engine builder i was just saying that anything you do to the engine to increase the power also increases the need to rev the motor. the modded 260's with 315hp probably produce that power at around 9000rpm and you would actually have less power at 7000rpm than you would with a standard 260

Hi!

No problem. I will ask how the engine can make 300 hp + at 7.500 rpms. I will also ask what hp the modified 280 make.
