Has Mercury ever made a Grey band engine and was it a Black Max?
Need to know ASAP please, cheers guys.

I think so. I`m sure my mate had a grey band black max(non dimpled effect on the cowling) and that was a 91/92 I think. Sure someone will say if I`m wrong.

Sort of grey/silver yes

Motor gods will confirm but in order it runs

Blue
Silver/grey
Bround
red/yellow
see pic from Boats & outboards if thats the one you mean. remember cowlings can migrate & might not be an indication of year.

Bround !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Must stay of the booze for a bit

Try Brown

I'm no motor god, but I thought Brown band came in '85, (first prop rated motors) directly after blue band, then thin Silver/thin Red.

Before Blue band, was Red band, which was all after the merc range were all White, rather than black.

In 'Band speak' that would've been a silver band (with red pinstripe)

Red Band (wide red band with Mercury set in it) was pre about '69/'70 I think

What a bunch of fkkn anoraks!

Best bit........... 1 in 5 of us are colour blind :lol:lol:

"Band Identification" would be a good candidate for it's own page on the main site. As would serial no decoding.
