Hi All,

any one going to or been to the miami boat show. I was thinking about treating myself to a little trip, so any info would be good and is it good and worth visiting.

thanks

There's already a thread about this, but I'll give you the latest.

Ther's around 6 or 7 of us booked to go, some are Miami show virgins, and some have been a few times before.

It really is the dogs knob of shows, loads to drool over, and best of all the food is pretty good, far nicer than Southampton, my personal favourite are the gyro's (kebabs) although the hot dogs are great!

The boats are quite smart too, plus you get to buy the latest Leatherman, as well as a couple of Maglites and a cheap handheld VHF. (you can't actually use them though coz a nobber on fibnet reckons they're illegal)

The other good thing about the show is that you are unlikely to see a rib, coz the americans know they are pants!

Sounds like an expensive trip but well worth it.
Td y dont you take us all over there in one of your boats?

Virginatlantic.com - a bunch of us got flights for £199 plus tax - 15th till the 23rd - if you want some links for self catering accomodation email me and I'll forward them to you!

Sounds good I'd better take some choc's and flowers home tonight to smooth the travel plans.
Do I need a visa as I have not been to the states for a few years.
The best flights I have found so far are about £300 not bad I thought.

You might want to call the American Embassy or somebody like that. You don't want to pay the money for passage and be denied entry when you get here.

John - you've got mail - if you need any more help just ask!

Matt - just had an email that you had replied and now there's nothing here?

Ok so who's going?

From this side of the pond:

Jon "Johnson" Fuller
Tony "spank that monkey" Davis
Matt "loud grumble" Yorke and Vicki!
John "insert suitable insult here" Cooke
John (jfk) if he can sort it out!

And from the good ole USA:

Catmando!

Anyone else I've missed out?

I've got Cat's "cell" number and I will probably hire a US phone when I get there - look forward to seeing you all at the airport on the 15th!
:drink: :drink:

Sorted

Unfortunantly Mrs (jfk) and tiny (jfk) do not fancy it so a few of me boating buddy's have decided to make it a jolly boys trip to miami.
So with best drinking heads fitted we will depart blighty on the 17th and back on the 21st.

Look forward to meeting a few familiar faces and a few new ones.

regards

john (jfk)

A pre departure get together would be fun although a bit of a trip from sunny south devon, being as you lot are all nearish each other.

Glad to see you're going to make it John if you get in touch sometime we'll exchange numbers if you want to meet up over there - we might have to have an informal get together - I have an idea of a venue and a day if anyone is interested?

Mid 70's at the moment it seems!

God, am I jealous.

My next trip to the States is 21 Feb to my mother's house on frosty old Long Island.

The upside is I should be doing the deal on the Scorpion.

Have fun everyone.

Hi Cookee,

Had a bit of trouble getting accommodation but managed to get a hotel on collins avenue which I am told is not far from the show.
Would be good to meet up over there where do you suggest and when. I will email tel No.

regards
john

Ben, why don't you try to fly into FLA a few days earlier, then take the trip to NY via an internal flight on the 21st?

That way you'd get to do everything.

First the good news - Collins runs 2 blocks from Convention Centre Drive - the bad news is it also runs for most of the length of Miami Beach! Have you got anymore of an address than that?

Here's the place - http://www.nikkibeach.com/ - Sunday they have a beach party although it might be a bit busy Although the clevelander has it's good points as well! http://www.clevelander.com/

So either 2 - 8 at the Clevelander on Saturday or Sunday brunch at Nikki beach? - Anyone want to choose - I may be at both! Plus OSO are having a get together on Thursday night at the Clevelander - they are trying to get a seperate area ........... it's going to be busy!

It would also be nice to see what it's like down in Key West for a night or two?

Can't wait!  :drain: :seaman: :three:

The shelbourne where I'm staying is 1801 and it's walking distance to the show so it might be a longer walk than I've got!

Edit - Sorry I think I've found it - is it the Haddon Hall? - Anyway 1500 isn't too far away at all - in fact it might be close to the Celvelander which is popular with show goers for some unknown reason!

we usually use Alamo

If you choose any of the big firms, it's a nice easy collection from Miami airport by continuous bus service.

wot ya gonna rent, a batmoble?
