First photo of a new 10M RIB that my company has designed for a new Greek builder.

I have just got back from Athens myself and after doing the initial trials everyone is very happy. The boat has been put together as a development / test boat for the moment but the full interior moulds for the full leisure version will be completed for the spring.

The boat, 'TECHNOHULL 999', is a double stepped hull using our own tapered step configuration. On first trials with a pair of 250HP outboards, 4 people and 120 kg ballast the boat achieved 62 Knots (71.5 mph). This was with engines mounted very low and at max rpm - needed more pitch on props. So definitely more speed to come.

Running on just one engine the speed was still 49.5 knots (57 mph) This was on the same trials with one engine merely trimmed fully out.

The builders went for a petty safe lay-up on the first boat - so she is no lightweight, coming in at just over two tonnes. However there is very little fit-out compared to how the final production boat will be.

There is a good chance that a lightweight version will be built and used for racing in Greece. I think this would see some more changes to tubes, engine heights and offsets, consoles etc.

For me the most pleasing thing is how she ran on one engine, bearing in mind it was mounted to one side, with the extra 200Kg of the other engine still there. It was also still propped for the twin installation so was only pulling about 5000 rpm.

In the photo she was probably only running about 50 knots - but she does run high and level. There is a pretty substantial bow to her - but Greek waters can be pretty rough and we wanted to give a boat that could handle such conditions. It also gives more options for uses of the boat outside the normal leisure inductry.

One is: 'Bridge Motorcycles' a stepped Revenger 29' (F1, twin)

the other is: 'Cider Daze' a stepped Revenger 27' (F2, single)

That's all I know.

That was Exmouth 2003. Flat as yer 'at. Everbody's trimming out to get a bit more speed, etc etc......
