anyone know anything about an ocke hull and tubes on a trailer for sale? and after a comment jf made about how perfectly flat they all seem to run and loking at pictures i was wondering can anyone speek from experience as to what they are like in a following sea?? or any sea for that matter (i imagine head seas very good??)

thanks glen

8m wasn't good in a big following sea, but fab everywhere else, 9m is superb at all times.

whats up with 8m just its big heavy nose jon?

The 8m is the same as the B24 batboat and believe me when I say they are horrible in a following sea - the nose is too pointy and stepped hulls will not trim as well as conventional hulls so you can only trim out a bit and they just act like a submarine.

The ribs have a lot of help from the tubes so they are not as bad as the race boats but they are very wet!

thanks cookee thats very interesting.. sorry i didnt catch up with you at ribex, i only got to stay for an hour much to my protest :( and even that was plagued with winging, moral of the story is never take ur missus to ribex, still i got my own back put er in the front of my mates phantom to get home....

There is certainly very little 'recovery' in the 8m, which as Cookee says, shares the hull form with the B23 and V24 batboats, although it's not such an issue with the V24 coz of the canopy, so it just goes through the top of the waves, kinda wave piercer.

i dont fully understand why... isnt the 9m same hull just streched?? if it is it must be just weight distribution... no??

No, the 8m is based on the B23/V24 as mentioned, where as the 9m is based on the B28, this is a bigger boat all round, as a batboat, the 28 is run as twin OB, or Single stern drive (7.4 litre and up)

here's a pic of a couple of Pleasure 28's, open and canopied.

Hi Glen

We race the Pascoe SR9 RIB (9m ocke mannerfelt hull), she does run a little bow down but that can be counteracted with props and obviously running slightly trimmed out in a following sea.

I also used to race a 2 litre batboat (8m hull) that was a horrendous boat in a following sea and I have had many a black eye from stuffing that in a following sea.

The 9m behaves beautifully and in general runs very level. I have had no problems running at top speed in a following sea and on the rare occasions she's stuffed, as long you keep your foot down, the tubes keep the hull up and avoids the awful submarining that the 8m gives. I would recommend the 9m everytime for any sea conditions!

Hope that helps!

ah very interesting all thankyou, ive been looking at one but although i wanna go fast i do also want extended cruising ability aswell, sounds like the 8m may not be the boat for me then... my friends got one and its a lovely comfy ride but thats just over the usual solent chop... wish i could afford the 9m. oh well back to the drawing board!! any suggestions greatky appreciated

thanks matt, im really looking to convert from the hard boat world to those blow up jobs... (although struggling) i had been looking at the ribeye ocke hull boat too (one going cheap soon)but its the 8m again so i presume its manners are gonna be the same arent they?

is distant rumble a runner again?? she is a beaut on the water..

Yeh, how about something like a formula? Older fer sure, but dead comfy and with a reasonable lick of speed, though obviously not in raceboat league. There's the odd few kicking around.

Is the bow sticking in the Air cos the FGT is in the cockpit?
