OK, mebbe there was no mention of money, but what made you say this?, water in vast quantity hitting the wheelhouse has enormous energy. And Spirit hardley had a streamlined wheelhouse, more like a sail, so it would only have to hit it 'just so' (belly flop) to create a huge shock.
